All signals grouped through desk to one track with GML 2020 eq on Group insert

Snare:

Top: Neumann fet 47 > Neve 1073
Top: Same signal paralled into Transient Designer 2 with tons of decay added
Bottom: AKG 451 > Neve 1073

All signals grouped through desk to one track with Little Labs Phase aligner on group insert

Underheads (thanks sean!!): Royer 122v > AEA Ribbon Pre

Rooms (In front and pointing at floor) : Neumann U67 > Api 512c > Api 550b eq > Vac Rac Limiter. This is a great technique and adds tons of grit and attitude to the kit sound.

Came out as a really great vintage sound but with plenty of modern punch. Will post clips when I get a chance to reopen the session.

(Apologies for grainy photos, cant ever seem to get that right!)

I gotta listen to this session

These mics pick up tons of great kick and snare stuff. I use them in cardioid and if you experiment with the placement you can keep a lot of the cymbals out..of course as always you need a drummer who doesnt overdo the hats etc. Compressing them can be pretty fun too, how much of course depends on the track..I used a tg1 on limit with the input full on the other day and that was pretty exciting.

Awesome, thanks!

Sometimes I use a 414 between the snare and kick lying on the floor, but I'm pumped to try this out.

All those mics on such an awesome drummer...I'll bet most of the sound came from these two mics!!!

Awesome over(or under)head mics. Wish we had another one for stereo.

back kit = aeg mkl100
ambient = rca 44 pair
fukko mics = old oktava lavalier clipped on beater side of kik drum near snare & slammed to death / also put a pzm on the floor between kick and snare & slammed

Just cant get enough of these mics for stereo applications..as you say, this pair on their own were the main ingredient. Would love to see royer come up with a stereo version like the sf24..THAT would be 'high end'

Yesterday Session

Here's a shot from yesterdays sesssion at my place.

That's Eddie Seville behind the kit. We were a few cutting tracks with Frank Carillo & the Bandoleros for the HBO TV series True Blood.

Lots of fun with this set up, 30 inch 1929 Radio King kick!

They showed the mic you are describing at AES in San Francisco. Perhaps they'll release it and everyone can rejoice.

It worked for Glynn Johns on Keith Moon's kit with the tons of toms.
