I just noticed some new pages on the Lauten Audio site.

Lauten Audio - Sessions - Drums

The session was done at Kronos and we were testing out some of the mics coming out from Lauten, as well as their current Horizon tube LDC's.

Here is Gary Novak (my partner and drummer for the day) with Brian Loudenslager - founder of Lauten, Kronos147 (a.k.a. Eric ) and Grammy nominated Engineer Mike Terry.

Here is a pic of a Glyn Johns setup.

Here is one with the tube SDC's on as overheads.

There are a ton of audio samples on the site from that day. I am about to go check them out (again!).

We did piano day 2 in case anyone is interested. Scott Kinsey was playing.
Lauten Audio - Sessions - Piano

Fun time, thanks Brian, Terry, and Scott!

P.S. Brian, don't be mad at me for stealing your pics!

Any detail on how the kick is mic'd? Specifically is there a mic inside the drum? The the front head ported?

Techies Clearmountain & Bryan Adams attempting to troubleshoot a technical difficulty with one of the mics on Mickey Curry's drums (at Bryan's Warehouse Studios.) It turned out to be a crack in the diaphragm.

I had to go back to page 2 of the thread ... Ah, memories ... So, you're asking about this pic?

Those are Milab DC-96Bs arranged in coincident X-Y ... as I recall, we had tried positioning them above and below each other, so that the center of each capsule formed a sorta "X" shape ... but then I asked the assistant to move them like this, so that the capsules were as close to coincident, but in a sorta "V" shape as possible .. and found that the stereo image was a bit ... well ... stereo-er like this. Probably because it was not quite as phase-coherent as in the top-bottom "X" config ... Rules, schmules, we went with this.

Hope that answers your question!

And wow. .. coming back to this thread has been a bit traumatic, as there really is no way to un-see Bob Clearmountain's buttcrack ... ... the horror

Depends. If it's the thermostat or the circulator fan motor I could probably help you out. If it's the compressor, I doubt I can do much.
