Mytek 192/Digi 192 A/B

Just tried the Mytek 8x192 ADDA on a mix I was working on.

We only used the two ch of AD sending the stereo mix from the Neve V3 back to the computer. Going in through the Mytek via AES/EBU on the Digidesign 192. Clock from the Digi 192. Then another time going from the V3 back to the computer using only the Digi 192. Both were 24/44.1

I got to blind test the two mixes. I picked the Mytek in like five seconds. The Mytek was overall much better. Better low, better hi, better separation, better depth, better everything.

We were three people in the studio, engineer, me (producer)and artist. We decided that we
couldn´t finish mixing without the Mytek and decided to keep the one we borrowed for testing.

Overall, I´d say the mix got about 15% better. Imagine what it would have sounded like if we would have used the Mytek for recording aswell (This particular project was recorded through Digi 192s), and using the DAs going to the Neve also, on its own clock, in 24/192.....

Love

Why would you want to clock the Mytek to the Digi192?? It only gets better on its own clock.

Hello oscar_wonderboy

Thanks for encouragement.

True, should sound better yet if Protools were clocked from Mytek, Mytek on internal. That was the original design idea.

I assume it will sound better on its own clock. I clocked from pro tools because we are mixing an entire album and need to finish by wednesday. We didn´t want to **** around with clocks at this moment since so many other things also are synced to the PT rig. This was just a very quick test. From today, if we have the time, we will have the Mytek as master.

That´s what I thought.

Are there Pro tools cards for the 8x96 units?
