early 60's fender jazz I am in Southern Cal. I have taken this bass to repair people off and on for years. Some of the problems never quite go away. They are electronic in nature.. The tone is fine. It is the pots that are noisy. All manner of intermittent problems. Bottom line is this. I am not handy. I need a bad mof+ who is deep into the older gear to put his knowledgeable hands on her. Any vintage Fender BASS genius's to recommend in Southern Cal?? I prefer someone who loves old Fender's. Failing that, does anyone have access to PLAYERS of these instrumennts- LA session guy or something like that? thanx

Why not take it straight to the source? Isn't Fender based in California?

It should be pretty easy to fix. Depending on the condition of the bass I would: If itīs 100% original I would ask the tech to gently open up the potentiometers and clean them inside, no contact spray, that will make things worse later. The (high) value of an original early 60s jazz will be even higher with "untouched solder joints". If itīs modified, refinished, changed parts etc, I would replace the potentiometers with new ones (but donīt throw away the oldies)

Try Renson Guitar, 11632 Moorpark, Studio City, CA. 818-761-4766. Highly recommended. The other possibility is http://www.carruthersguitars.com/ They are in Venice. I've got a '64 Jazz Bass that he did a bunch of work on. But, that was in like 1982 so I can't vouch for the work he/they do now. Carruthers was the man (or one of the men) at that time. Ask Lee Sklar. Good luck, Jim
