Is there a hole?

Hi Guys,

I am pretty content with my set-up - can you see something that I would really benefit from? I am thinking a 2-bus compressor might be the next purchase. I do it all here - TV, film composing, mixing, pop, rock, acoustic, etc. Mostly one track at a time, not a lot of live drums.

Full floated pro designed/built control/live room - so acoustics taken care of. This was super important to me so I did it right.

Monitors - Dynaudio 6a's, NS10's powered by Bryston amp
Monitoring - Cranesong Avocet
Mics, U67, (2) U87 (matched vintage), tlm103, (2) 414TL II, (1) Geffell 930, (1) royer 121, sm 58,57, c1, d6,604,earthworks drum kit.
Pre's - TG2, Germanium, 1272, (5) BAE 312, one 512c
Comp (etc) 2 Distressors w 1176 mod, Atomic Sqeezebox, SPL de-esser, Pod Pro. Dangerous 2 bus
A/D - Lavry gold MK 3
Recorder : Pro Tools HD 3 - with all plugs - Pro control surface

I mean I could get more flavors of stuff, but I get so many great basic sounds, I think I am in a good place.

Thanks!

How 'bout a subwoofer? Neither of your nearfields do well below 75 hz. I use a pair of Dynaudio BM6 Passives, a McIntosh 2120 and a Genelec sub. Works great.

That's a great idea. I never loved Genelec's - but you like their Subs?

Yes, and I couldn't tell you the model number of my sub...it's an older one, and pretty small. It has really helped me get the bottom to translate better.

I was not a fan of Genelec's either, and am a Dyn lover (I also have a pair of BM15As in my tracking space). Dynaudio no longer makes their awesome BX30 sub, which is a shame. The newer Dyn subs I know little about, but I know some people with Dyn tops and Genny subs, it's a pretty good match.

But I have always liked Genelec subs, and nowadays I actually like pretty much all the Genny stuff. The newer 80-series range is excellent, as are the 70-series subs. In fact, their least expensive 2.1 "triple-play" or whatever it's called, with the little 8020As and 7050B sub is amazing.

Your pair of BM6As with a pair of Genny 7060B subs below them might rock, depending on your room, or course.thumbsup

I just got a 7070 and it's massive. You need a tuned room for that though, and not a small one...

Depending on your room and the type of music and monitoring you do, you could use either one or two 7060B (the B is the current model). One is probably enough.
