But I'd happily throw the free RME up on eBay so you could bid on it... |

Move on to the gear that's supposed to add a tonal quality, like EQ and compression!

Given how good, and similar, any decent modern converter is, which one is "best" is much more a function of features, stability etc.

I have indeed used the AVID and it's HUGE sounding. Noticeably big time sounding. But if one is going HD Native it shouldn't even be a question.

There isn't any sonic difference between the HD native and the HDX is there? The HDX doesn't sound better does it - its just got more features as such?

A | No, just power, which you may not need unless you are doing the post on Avatar Part II.

If you had a choice between the Avid Omni and the Prism Orpheus Which would you choice? If money wasn't in the equation.

I would take the Omni in a half a second, because :
1 It is not Firewire so it will enable your system to be as fast as possible.
2 It's sounds absolutely killer, you won't care how many other converters are out there.

Then had a rather large financial emergency and sold it. Started using the Duet II, and found I was doing pretty well with it, so didn't feel rushed to try to get it again. But I'm pretty much over the whole Firewire thing, and I'm a pretty huge Pro Tools fan, so I miss not having a cohesive system with PT. I like the idea of having a great box tied to a non Firewire solution that is all by the same company and therefore supported AS A SYSTEM by the same company.
I'm also encouraged by posts I've read where people are using the Native Card with Logic with no problems, so since I use Logic as well, it really seems like the perfect solution for me, and right now they have a great deal going on the card.

Tom | thanks for that Tom i'm also in the market to move up from my setup. EVERYTHING i've read about the Omni, your comments included, has me lookin' at that very hard. right now i'm usin' a DAC1 and PCM422EVM as my conversion and a 002 as my PT dongle. so i wanna make sure i step forward with my A/D/A...and the Omni seems to do it without a doubt. can you point me to the link on the deal with the Native card they have goin' at the moment? thanks
found the link... http://www.avid.com/US/special-offer...ative-exchange |

So I've been thinking long and hard about which interface I want to go for, and in my current situation it doesn't practical for me to shell out the cash for the omni (I can't find any second hand here in the UK)
So...
It's come down to the RME Fireface UFX or the MH uln-2 expanded.
I'm swaying more towards the uln-2 because of the better pre-amps but I'm still not decided. Any input between the two?
I would rarely use more then 2 inputs and only need 2 outputs so the MH is ok for that. It would be nice to have the extra features of the RME just in case I needed them but really the interface will be used just for mixing, maybe taking it out into the field for some film work if needed.
Just thought maybe I should have started a new thread for this but oh well, it's all relative.

Help needed!!,
I'm about to upgrade my 002 and need an ultra low latency, great sounding interface for tracking live instruments and outboard.
I will be running Pro Tools 10 on both Mac and PC and would prefer Thunderbolt, Firewire or USB.
My choices so far are:
1. UA Apollo w Thunderbolt card
2. Avid Omin (Thunderbolt)
3. RME UFX
Which one should I go for?
I'm pulling my hair out..Please help!!

Do you know how the Apollo and UFX stack up against it?..is it a night and day difference or negligible?

Do you know how the Apollo and UFX stack up against it?..is it a night and day difference or negligible? | The Omni sounds wonderful. It's a big, full sound almost like using a tape machine, as opposed to that super detailed Duet 2 type sound (which I love actually). Everything has a lot of weight.
Lots of convenience features on it, it sits at arms length from me and has been great, so worth the cost to me for the sound, features, and makes a complete all in one solution for me with the Native card.
That said, I think once you get into UFX, Apollo, and Omni territory all of the conversion probably sounds great, and it's up to what you hear and prefer.
