can you identify this gear??

can anyone identify the gear in this image?

I am actually most interested in the multi-rainbow looking colored piece to the right, what is that thing i see it in lots of studios but have no idea what it is; some sort of EQ?

if you know anything else just call it out for fun; i know onei think

rainbow knobs is a GML EQ I think. There's 1176s under it and Drawmer gates over it. the othe rack has a Neve 10x racks and an API rack to the left of that.

Hi

A rack to hold 12" Neve modules but not painted to match so not made by Neve.

The modules in the rack were 1064's as there are no dual concentrics like a 1081.

Looks like a 2254 limiter compressor to the left of the rack. Absolute sacrilege to park his ice coffee (or whatever it is) on top of the P & G faders.

P&G is Penny and Giles - lots of high end consoles are equipped with P&G faders.

I doubt we can see enough of the console in this pic for anyone to ID it. A fair few consoles have padded armrest, P&G faders and a row of gray knobs above them, but Mr Tanner may yet prove me wrong.

Ya, the ash tray. And the sticky drink. And the so-very-cool-dude with his weed stash out. Makes ya wanna cringe. But we've all witnessed scenes very like that one.

What's the odds that in the photo taken right after this one, he'd moved his right elbow an inch or two and upended the ashtray spilling 2/3 of its contents down into the fader slots.

Then, in the shot after that one, it'll show how, in his rush to save the ashtray, the drink went flying, but no one noticed because they were too busy searching for a dustpan or a mini-vac to try to salvage the ash situation, so sticky orange cool-aid quietly leaked down into the cards for channels 18-26.

If course, the fourth shot will also show where the still-smouldering joint-butt ended up. Alas!

Lovely.

i'd be willing to bet the console is an SSL 4000 based on the color(colour) of the pan nobs and the rotary group select switch on each fader.

You laugh, but I've actually seen a scenario just like that before when I worked in a big studio. Hilarious and tragic at the same time.

Hi

I'd go along with your bet... I don't think it is a Neve.

Here's Alan Parsons doing the same on the Neve Abbey Road console

Hi

I can only recall one custom Neve console that had ashtrays embedded in the front buffer....

Circa 1973

The unit above the 2254 looks like a Maselec-Prism MMA4.
