Thread Starter | Audient Console on the way!
I am current very excited. Our new Audient console should be arriving next Thursday. We are going to spruce up our control room while all the gear is out so some hard work to do but it should be worth it.
Anyway thats it, just excited.
Cheers

You can see pics of the current setup at www.parloursound.co.uk. I will try and post some work in progress pics as we go. It should sound better than my old allen and heath saber.

I'm sure the Audient is a great desk for the price, but i've been having some build quality issues with the one i'm working usually.
For ex. control room pots got scratchy after some months of use. The main board had to be replaced due an electrical issue some months ago, so they changed all the board including the control room pots, and now, after just half a year with the new pots, they're scratchy another time.
So i would advise you to "minimise" in some way it's use.
Regards.

I must admit I have had the control room pot get a little scratchy too. A couple of good spins usually clears her up. The HF Freq pot on channel one has a pot issue also, cuts in and out. Usually a little flick gets her working. These kind of things I am use to, it happens to the best of them. But I am glad you brought it up, maybe they can fix it, and give us some better pots. www.bluethumbproductions.com |

Yes, i think so... they could put more money on such an important part like this. Actually i work sometimes also on a Yami 02R who's control room pot gives less problems so i would expect more from the audient... Have you had any issue with the Mix Bus meters?

Did The Eels with Mike Simpson (Dust Brother), and did Trapt for the Punisher, mixed by Tom Lord Algae. And mixed one Trapt song for their more recent release.

be aware ...
i have used one for many years ... since they first came out ... when something goes wrong you have to replace large boards and not just single components ... the one i use has had both power supplies and every board and meter bridge in it changed out ... and i do hope they have replaced those Alps faders with something that is more solid ... watch your headroom ... feels like cheesy gain pot .... very mackie like ...
i hope you have better experience than we have over the last 7 years ...

Ouch, that sounds like a real dig. I guess we do share something with Mackie, making products accessible price wise, although we hope people consider the console a bit of a leap up from Mackie in the sound and feature stakes. Just to clarify the point on the boards, the boards are servicable for the most part but for those without service facility we can swap out boards on a repair program. Saying this of the 300 plus consoles we have out there, we have only had to swap out 2 or 3 main boards (due to an electrical connector issue that was eliminated some time ago) and not that many more meter boards. I don't think we've ever swapped out input boards except where a service engineer wasn't available.
The current power is rock solid, so far very few problems in about 6 years. Old PSUs can be upgraded to the latest version very easily. If customers want something other than the Alps K series we also offer Penny and Giles options too.
Glad to hear you've still got the console after 7 years. I hope it provides good service for another 7 years, if there is anything that crops up in the future that we can help with, do let us know.

Audient Plc | I am glad you responded, and happy to know your service policy.
I have been happy with the console so far, it performs outstanding in a studio situation. As far as the other post, it seems he is a live mobile sound engineer. I can't vouch for the Audient in that kind of use.
I would like to know if it is possible to swap out pots for better ones?

I worked on one of the early Audient boards and the pwr supply did start to burn up the main fuse....almost daily. It ended up that the fuse holder had been heating up rather toasty and just started cooking the fuses until they popped. The fuse mount seemed to either have been compromised (bad contact creating more heat) or it was not designed to handle that kinda amp load.
Anyway, the quick and easy fix was just bypassing the circuit board fuse and installing an inline fuse holder that was capable of handing the amp load.
Fuse didn't get hot anymore, no problems after that.

My Audient is superb. Yes I've had to have little bits of maintenance here and there but it sounds fantastic and has never yet let me down. I accept that the early ones had some problems.
It's also worth pointing out that if you are used to working on SSLs etc it IS going to feel cheap. It costs 1/20th of the price or something! Considering the way it sounds, other compromises have to be made. And they are made in manufacture. The pots are mounted onto the surface of the card which sits below the 'face plate' if you like. Consquently there is some little movement of the shaft within the hole in the faceplate. Forget about it. It doesn't matter. And yes the 60mm faders feel flimsy...but they work perfectly so who cares?
If you're a small studio working to a budget, and you want a proper desk that does the business without needing to spend a fortune maintaining some old battleship, Audient is where the smart money goes.

Matt T www.bluethumbproductions.com | Hi Matt,
I think there might be a possibility for swapping out the moin monitor pot. Are you happy for me to email you directly? That way I can put you in contact with the tech guys. Feel free to email me at luke.baldry@audient.co.uk

I've bought one of the very first Audient desks in UK...its been more than 7 years I think. Power supply did go down in the first week, but after replaced - everything was fine. Only one minor break down in all these years!
And I had thieves jump on it during one burglary!! Still works, thought!
Some 150 remixes / mixes / productions and over 10M of sales later, what can I say? Love it.. I wish they had patchbay model when I bought it!
Paid for itself after 3 months.....

Do you guys use any automation or recall for your Audient consoles?
