Has anyone given Steven Wilson's opus this a listen yet? Comments about his production on this new album?

Had a couple of listens, enjoying it a lot so far. Personally I think Wilson's mixes these days are a lot less full than they used to be, but it might just be me.

I've only listened once, so I can't comment on the production much yet... other than to say that the production is noticeably different, but that may be because of less emphasis on guitars, and the addition of woodwinds/other instruments. The 'heavy guitars' are few and far between compared to previous albums, and when they do appear, the 'metal' tone is completely absent. Musically, the early King Crimson influence was a little too blatant for my tastes. Throughout the album I was constantly reminded of specific KC songs from their first two or three albums. It kind of took away from the overall enjoyment IMO. |
