Help me recognise this u87!

Hi
im federico, from italy.
I'm buying my second good mic to compliment a royer r121 and my eyes fall on this u87 from '80 .The owner is not a musician so he don't know anything about the mic, and he lives very far away.He sends me some photos but i'm a little ignorant, so i need your help to recognise if is a ggod choice or not.

Since i'm here i would like to know how this mic will compare with a new brauner phanthera ... i can have one for the same price and im really curious.
I need this mic primarily for voice and acoustig guitar.

Thanks everyone in advance, and sorry for my bad english
Ciao!!

We should see it opened to judge, also the capsule. But it looks good outside.

Seems good. The date, send the serial number to Neumann and they'll tell you that exactly
After quick googling it would be from late seventies or early eighties imho
Buy it if the capsule is in good condition aswell

how come there's a power supply for the u87?

I don't think neumann did tube versions of this mic, did they? maybe for something else?

probably external phantom power, otherwise it would have a tube in it and would be a U67

I would buy it for that price and if any problems send it to Andreas Grosser for capsule cleaning / repair and general overhaul
