headphones that won't break

Hi there!
I've been trying to find some post about this but no luck.

What headphones are you guys using?
I'm SO tired of buying all kinds of headphones, cheap and expensive, and they all break on the conector. I guess that's the weakest point but, is there any around which stand up for being extra rough??
My favorite up to now are beyerdynamic MT100 (if I remember correctly), but TBH I don't like their sound that much. Any other preferences?
Thanks!

Jordi.

said it before and will say it again: Sennheiser HD25
my personal pair for on stage (clubs festivals) is now 10 years old this summer.
if something breaks, the construction is so simple, you can repair it easily yourself, on stage even. some other headphones sound better, maybe, but these are built to last.

If you like the durability & the ease of getting replacement parts for the DT100s but don't like the sonics (who does?) then try the DT150.

Similar looking things but sonically much superior.

Since you seem to be prone to breaking headphones, I think you're looking at low end. I've got a pair of Grado's that I am extremely careful with. For beater use, I have a pair of Sennheider HD280's. Great value--$100. They seem to be more durably made than some of the Ultrasones. If that plastic breaks, you're screwed. (I've heard of it happening.) Those Ultrasones go for $240. If you're going that price range, you better be careful with them.

it's ABS plastic.. what are you gonna do, run em over with a car? drop a GTR amp on em? this is the same plastic they make milk crates out of... yeah plastic will eventually break I SUPPOSE.. but i certainly wouldn't label em fragile, especially when you use the word SENNHEISER in the same sentence...

Or drop a Les Paul on them. Sorry man. I didn't mean to disrespect the milk crate plastic. I read extensively on headphones, including a lot of user reviews. There was a very good website (looked like harmony-central)--can't remember the site now. People were talking about Ultrasone Proline breakage. It didn't sway me in the least because I've never broken a pair of headphones.
The guy posting above probably travels with them a lot and gets a lot of wear and tear. I'm just saying that I wouldn't spend a lot. I thought the Ultrasones were high on the high end. I liked the 280's better, and they seemed more durable.
I also have a pair of Grado RS-1's, but I didnt' recommend them. The Ultrasones are much more durable than these Grado's. He's asking for unbreakable... Just giving him feedback on what stuck with me when I was reading user reviews.

Sorry, when I meant high end, I was talking about high end of the frequency. I have a pair of RS-1's which is as slutty as you can get.

That is the site that I was talking about. This is not the only user with this problem with this indestructible plastic that you talk about.
Search on this website for Ultrasone plastic, and you'll see several accounts of cracking/breakage.
Why am I wasting my time...?
It is a decent resource for reading honest user reviews, though.

Sennheiser HD650. I don´t know how it happens but it has fallen on the floor at least 100 times (always somehow pulling the cable when standing up) and I also heavily stepped on the cable (while having the headphones on the head or trying to put it there quite a few times ...) It is still alive and perfectly intact ...

Sennheiser HD600 ,
and replace the Cables with custom Cardas , they detach.
so if they break you can get multi replacements.

Thanks everybody!!!

Thanks everybody for your advice!!

I think I'll give those DT150 a try.
I really love the DT100 because they are really closed but really really confortable. You can really wear them for a long time without getting tired. BUT the sound isn't that confortable, so if the DT150 do sound way better, it looks like my thing!

I use akg's 240's or 270's primarily. The first thing I do is buy a hosa headphone extension cable. I wrap up tightly the original cable and Tie wrap it to the side of the headphones . Then I plug in the hosa. This way the hosa extension takes 'the beating' When it breaks in a year or so I repeat the process. Meanwhile the original cable and connector are untouched and I'm only out $5 not $175

Beyer DT250 is my choice. Nice to wear, a minimum of leakage, easy replaceable cord and a nice sound. And the price is nice too.

Jordi,

Harvey Gerst (Bob Dylan, The Byrds, Hendrix, Joplin, the Dead, Zappa, Buffalo Springfield...i.e. he knows his stuff) of Indian Trails Recording Studio got sick of broken headphones and he found a solution. He sells them from his website because he couldn't get music stores to do it. Read his thoughts on the topic here:

http://recforums.prosoundweb.com/ind...+me#msg_101329

See and purchase the headphones here:

http://www.itrstudio.com/moreme.html

Hope this is helpful.

Well, maybe this post might apply totally in a "High End" forum... but I paid a "high end" price for what I got -- and disappointed in the result.

I got a pair of those Bose noise cancelling headphones. They are falling apart on the sides where you can pull down on them to expand the size. The plastic bits keep popping apart and the metal frame inside ends up stabbing me in the head.

For the $300 dollars I spent on them, I am not happy. Oh well, its my fault for spending so much on Bose. I don't actually use them for serious music listening... I use them for airplane travel...

I think I will just buy a set of fat Sennheisers next time, comfy fit and tight enough to block out at least some external noise without being noise-cancelling.
