| Toronto Maple Leafs fan | TLM 49 Vs. Soundelux U95 Vs. Miktek C7
Hey guys, I'm looking for opinions on the differences between these two mics. I have a TLM 49 and while I like it, I find it a little bit too "focused" and lacking in the air department. I have a U95 being held for me right now so I am going to be finding out this weekend with my own ears but I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with both can chime in on the differences. I will be keeping one or the other after I try the U95. I also have a Miktek C7 to try this weekend. One of the employees at my dealer told me that the C7 was extremely close to the U87 which is cool, I've always liked that mic but it isn't imperative that I have the definitive U87 sound. I just want something upfront and sparkly for pop/rock vocals. Vocals are my top priority with one of these mics, if clips of me singing would help I can supply some stuff. Thanks guys. |

The TLM 49 and C7 are very different. I found the 49 to be very big on the bottom - very prone to proximity effect. The C7 is pretty flat all the way across.

Yeah this will primarily be a vocal mic, so the big bottom is not necessary, the 49 sounds sweet as a kick mic but I have other mics that do that as well.

Are you referring to the Soundelux U95, or Soundelux U195/Bock 195?

If I were going for a vocal mic, I would definitely go for the CV4. Just thicker than the C7. I would think you could get it for around $1100 somewhere...I'm sick right now, but I've been wanting to really compare the two. I've had the C7 for a while, but mostly picked it up for M/S stuff and more as a second mic. It was a demo mic, and I just opened it up the other day and noticed that the bias has been on the 60v switch - which is for a brighter sound. Switched it back to 48v. So - I might record a quick vocal using the two and just present it bare bones.

Hate to break it to you, but under $2500, they're all Chinese capsules.

Well, you could be right on the Neumann stuff being made in Germany. I really think that stuffs a little overblown though.
