Does anybody know Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, TX?

Some friends are being offered a record deal but they "must" record at this studio. Does anybody know why would be that?

The studio looks impressive.

They haven't mentioned engineer/producer. I suppose the staff/interns would be involved?

Looks cool. Solid gear. However, the site says ProTools HD and the pics are of an old mix system on a g4. Might want ot check that out.

That is where they did the last few albums. The new Cannibal was recorded at Erik Rutan's new studio.

Do they have a lawyer? I wouldn't touch nuthin' without having a lawyer read stuff first.

I'm amazed by some of the stuff that still goes on, even after decades of stuff like John Fogerty getting sued for sounding too much like his own songs which he signed away to someone else.

But maybe whoever's offering the "deal" has an inside line at that studio; I'd consider that to be legit if they're fronting for the studio time. Maybe someone at the "label" is part-owner of the studio or something. That wouldn't bother me. What would bother me is if it's an underhanded way to "sell" studio time.

Never know 'till you check it out, though.

I know the last few Ministry CD's were done there...maybe you'll run into Al. I think the studio actually has some of his gear.

I know the studio, Tony Rancich, and all those folks fairly well. Neil Kernon has been down there producing quite a bit since 1994. Tony has a ton of amazing gear, a wonderful mic collection, is a beautiful person and extremely knowlegeable in nearly any area.

Staying at the Ranch is a pleasure and extremely relaxing. The rooms sound fantastic, especially the adobe-type drum room. I know Tony and the guys have been some of the first people beta testing that high-end Rupert Neve company mastering system. Other than that, all I can say is DO IT. You wont be sorry.

I dont know about the record deal thing, but it may involve some other arrangement where the label has a price break. As always, anything between the artists and label would naturally be reviewed by competent legal counsel. That, IMO, has nothing to do with the quality and integrity of Sonic Ranch and all its people. Not knowing what label you are talking about, or if Tony may have a label going or be part of one, all I can say is that everyone there is totally reliable and honest.

As far as the HD system and those old pics, trust me, the pics are old. Anything Tony says he has, he has and much more. If ANYTHING is missing that you need, he will get it (well, almost anything, hahah).

I've done 72 albums there, starting in 1994. It's a great studio.

Yes, I do

I'm here at the ranch. As someone said, Tony has all that webpage said plus more than you can imagine.
Everything is ok here.
Come and be prepared to spend a wonderful time working here with real stuff (I'm doing an album in Tape and mixing in the Neve with GML automation...what else?
The people is so kind and the place is good for focus on your work.
I'm doing 14 hs a day, and no problem at all.
I feel like at home, but with everything I want/need.
