which summing box or other solution to get the same sound of a Neve Melbourn?

hello,

I do not have enough money at the moment to buy the console of my dreams , the NEVE MELBOURN

what solution would you advise me to get the same creamy, phat and warm sound identical to this mixer ?

Is there a summing mixer with the same colour ?

or a pair of vintage pre ?

thanks for giving me your advice

best regards

nothing. you want the sound of a neve melbourne you have to get a neve melbourne. A Chandler may do what you need but it won't sound like a melbourne.

+1

Check out the BAE 8 channel mixer.. for sure not cheap (for a good reason), but probably cheaper than a Melbourne..at least you'll have that N sound..
Probably the closest thing to the real thing (talking about the Neve sound), since you could put the BAE 10xx modules in it..and they're as close as possible as the vintage ones afaik.

Can't answer the question about copying a Neve Melbourn, but The Chandler has a wonderful coloration/tonality and vibe. Very warm without goop and very emboldening, enriching with lots of clarity. It is a wonderful Sidecar to have adjacent to something else in efforts to to submix things through. It can work as a main mixer, but its pretty "old school", so one might adjust to its operation and action. I find it to be an "audio toaster" that spits out golden bronzed audio quality and really flips up my skirt. I like this mixer a lot, it sounds great and easily warms up anything.

There is also the newly developed Great River MM20, although meant to be used in conjunction with a DAW, the unit has a total of 16 Transformers in the signal path, which were chosen for their musicality/tone, and they give the MM20 a dense weight with a smooth finish that is very unique, but similar in harmonic quality to older transformer discrete consoles, to my ear. Though, this mixer has +29 headroom everywhere [among other great features like newly designed Great River Mic amps that get you closer to god and further away from noise] and seems to never run out of 2-shoot headroom and when the mixer is pushed it only sounds smoother. One might wax poetic about character, about what machine sounds like another, but the truth is that they all sound different. What I find really cool about the Great River [beyond its thoughtfully conceived layout] is that it also has a great clarity, and width as well. A big solidly dense, harmonically enhancing sound, that is matched with a big wide open clarity.

and what do you guys think of buying a rack with two vintage 33115 pre/eq, since they were the one mostly used on the Melbourne ?

But will I miss some other goodies of the melbourne signal path ?

regards

Possibly the 33115s tied to a Roll Music passive summing mixer.? Isn't that the idea of it, choose the pre to put on the out to vary your tone?
