Try a couple Brystons not gooey, warm, soft, or any of the traits I look for in a lady .. but a damn transparent (if a little bright/bitey) amp. Definitely Bi-amp (buy-amp) with those 802's |

well considering B&W also own Classe Audio.. I think that may be a direction to look at. I used to have a Classe 201. Great amp and can be had quite cheap these days (well around £1k anyway) |

| amp for b&W802D
Hi, I have tried the Bryston (14), Accuphase (560) and the old Classe 2200. (to replace my marantz pm14, that is too small for the 802's, but haven't bought them yet, needed a new car first.. blew my play money on that) For me the Classe sounded best. I haven't auditioned the new amps yet. But for me the Classe cp800 pre is exactely what i need.. and relatively cheap at $5500.. The power amp you have to check how much power you need. Choices are 2x300, mono CA 300, mono CA 600 if you're going to rackmount the amps, go for the CT series, saves you 500 per poweramp and they are the same amp. I advise to bi-wire the speakers, realy does sound better. (i'm running inakoustic 1302 double mono, sounds real good for the money - 1100 euro's . A friend has Kimber select 3038? and that is real nice.. but might end up costing more than the amps. He's running the 802's on the Classe 700 pre and M400's) Let us know if you can listen to them, very interested if 4 CA300 sound better than 2 CA600... jan |

When B&W originally manufactured the N802's they used Chord amps to voice them. Since then they bought Classe and now use them to voice them. So either the Chord amps or the Classe amps with get you the "sound" the manufacturer had in mind. Good luck. Myself, I'm just using two Hafler 9505's in mono-block mode for mine... they sound fantastic.

I tried many amps and bought an audionet amp I VII. Much cleaner and more detailed than the bryston 4b stt2 which I found way too coloured and less precise as you get the feeling of hearing some kind of verb or stage effect. Otherwise maybe a mark levinson would suit well. my2ct
