| Focusrite Blue 230 advice Ive had this comp for about 6 years. Pretty worthy box for sure. But, its getting a bit tired and saggy sounding, not to mention the make up gain is awefully noisy. So...with something of this ilk, is it a good idea to let someone upgrade / mod the components to get it sounding spanky again? Sell it as is without the mods? Or leave it be to retain whatever 'value' a non-modified / non-worked on piece holds. From a musical pov, its sound is just starting to eat at me, and I cant help but believe a go-through would help it out.....so its either sell it as is, or get it worked on to keep it. I know you cant answer that for me, but a few peoples ideas or stories (good or bad) about getting work done on their previous fav piecees might help me decide. Thanks |

It's not uncommon to outgrow gear. If it's your ears that have changed, then no amount of "going through" is going to make you happy. Start auditioning and move on.

First of all don't fall into the "What if?" trap. You either like it or you don't. And just because some do and talk about it like its the bee's knees(like myself for eg) doesn't mean squat if it doesn't inspire you sonically. Its a trap that's easy to fall into the way things are raved about here. And lastly the financials shouldn't be an influence either. Yeah its expensive and it looks great but that means squat if you don't feel it. I think sometimes people around here need validation for their purchases especially when they are costly one's. All i can say from personal experience is that i have a modified Blue 230 and it rocks. And yeah since i modified it i've been using it more on my mixbuss and on a drumsub. But i liked it before the mods so that it sounds sweeter to me is icing on the cake. And i am lucky enough to have other compressors i can switch with if the Blue 230 is not working for a particular project. I think to depend on one compressor into todays modern mix enviroment is a little tough. And lastly if you don't feel it now the modifications that are done may not be enough to change your mind.
