Well to answer your question. It has a warm syrup tone not what I would call punchy. Just nice Neve style smoothness.

hmmm, looks like a cool box....Sadly never have tried one, but I've used plenty of 33609 knock off's before......I really dig the Vintage Designs CL1MK2 and find it to be a great sounding unit.

It has a really dense/harmonically enhancing sound quality with a lot of low mid "drive". Its very rich and smooth sounding, and the action is "glassy" soft w/ sheen and very clean at many DB. Its a great all around box, and excellent for the 2-bus.

It's a lot more colored than a 33609. The functions are based on the 33609 but not the tone IME. It's very rich and smoothing, NoEgo's description was spot on (although it can be used fine on drums but it will make them more mellow and fat as opposed to something like an 1176 or Distressor which will make them in your face).

I own one, and absolutely love it, for the same reasons as above posters.... it's not a punchy comp like API, SSL, etc.

definitely has some nice smooth, fat characteristics. it'll thicken up a "tiny" little tone REAL good.

I love using mine on the whole 2 bus, which I run with a Dangerous 2 bus LT, it kicks ass there.

I've put it on weak, high freq garbaged cymbals (ugh, I hate tinny sharp cymbals) and just taken the top off of the attack, brought up some makeup gain and voila, sounds MUCH nicer (think 90's rock cymbals ala Third Eye Blind).

Love it on vox as well with certain singers, as you can imagine women (due to the "fatness" of it) sound terrific with it.

Definitely favor for kick/snare sounds UBK fatso or Distressors to give them the attack that we're accustomed too these days.

Works well on gtrs, esp if you have a good eq to run after the comp (manley's pultec for instance) to bring out the mids and air.... as long as you're not squashing the shit out of it. On gtrs when I use it, I usually just get a few dbs of comp and push the makeup gain (if I want to bring in 2nd/3rd harmonic distortions)

It's a nice comp and I certainly love it with the vintech pre's. They make fantastic sounding gear that's extremely well built (I've had mine on a mobile rig for 4 yrs now, still running perfect).
