Pacifica - very quiet now

recently there has been quite a hype about the A-Designs Pacifica (as it is now for the Chandler Germ) and I was close to buy one as well.
I wonder why there is no review, thread or comment anymore.

People are now just using it, be happy and have no time anymore to write something about it in the forum or was there finaly not such a big demand for the Pacifica ?

how much hype do you need man!?
a search for "pacifica" right now returns 213 results.

i think alot of us that own and love a-designs preamps have said what we think on the subject already, and don't feel the need to keep pounding those opinions into the ground. Of course i can't speak for everyone else, but at least thats the way i feel.
200+ threads with the Pacifica mentioned should be enough, ay?
Perhaps everyone else has their Pacificas and P1's now and are too busy enjoying them to post on GS.

i wouldn't let a constant stream of hype (or lack there of) make or break a decision to buy a product.

I can't recall seeing a bad review on this forum, and i think that speaks alot louder than all the hype.

LasVegasProAudio.com has a great trial/return policy.
The best you can do is try it for yourself, if you love it - keep it and pay for it. If you hate it, send it back and give this forum the first negative Pacifica review.

good luck!

Just ordered a P-1 for the Lunchbox.

I'm interested to see how it stacks up against the Purple Biz and Averill API's already in there.

I have the whole line on the way to me: P-1, Red, Blue, Silver. I will hopefully write up my thoughts and post something. I would like to comment on any differences I find between the Pacifica and P-1 once I have had a chance to play with everything for a bit.

The Pacifica is still really good. All of us that were raving about it last week are now locked away in our studios using it!

With lots of things finally coming out lately, like Shadowhills, chandler germ, etc., it kinda gets like a feeding frenzy round here, and the flava of last week gets run over by the novelty of this week's flava. Don't make yer buying decisions that way be my suggestion.

My Pacifica is working every day. Currently ancient Hawaiian chant vocals with my Pelusos and drums & body percussion, it makes deep, big tracks.

I can't speak for the Pacifica............but the P-1 is fricking AWESOME!

This thing sounds huge and very clear in the mid range! Its a 'must have' for the 500 series racks. Getting ready to purchase another one! Can't wait to try out the other A-Designs modules as well! Saucy Jack........you're gonna LOVE that P-1!

I'm gonna do somedrum tracking this weekend to test it out.
My only reservation was that the P-1 might be too similar to the API or Biz but we'll see...

Hello musicsound-2,

Here's a concept that you touch on in your post.

They are busy recording!!!!!

But the other half.................Don't make ANY purchase unless ........you can A/B the unit before hand.

Very wise information. Glad to hear that from a manufacturer. Helps add creedence to your company.

Not at all similar to the API IMO. I have some Brent Averill 312's with the original API cards in them. The P-1 was MUCH fuller than the 312's! The midrange was very sweet and smooth! IMHO the P-1's are a perfect complement to the 312's. They play nicely together!

I think it's more similar to the API than it is to a Neve style pre, but it's different enough that you're going to love it and want more. It does seriously good things to the high end that you probably haven't experienced before from other preamps. That's my prediction.

Duh...mono overhead!

And I personally would use it on electric guitar. I like the API better on kick because it seems to have more weight.

Dear Peter,

thanks for feedback. Yes of course I was considering A/B and I have been in contact with your Swiss distributor as you recommended once.
He even offered to send one unit to Germany but we unfortunately noticed that I have to pay not just transport back and forth but also taxes and duties in both directions if I decide to send it back after testing. So I stopped the idea to A/B for the moment.
It would be helpful and more simple to have an own distributor here in Germany.

Kind regards
Klaus

Hi Klaus,

I'm very sorry about that but I have been looking for a GOOD Distributor in your country and it seems like that's a very tall order!

For now the best we can offer is our current distributors in other countries closest to you.

If and when we find a Distributor in Germany, I can and will do a post here in GS to keep you informed.

Again, please hang in there with us if you can!

I love my Pacificas and I am saving up for more. I have gushed about it several times in this forum but slowed down a bit lest people think Peter has me on the payroll!!

It really is a stunning pre and on shoot outs / A-B tests it just keeps winning. I am in the middle of mixing a rock record where I used the Pacificas on everything except the drums which I used the Pacifica on the Kick and Snare. The mixing is going so easy. Everything just seems to sound right and work together with out me doing much of anything.

Along the lines of what Ronan said, I'm in the middle of mixing a project where 2/3 of it was tracked through a Pacifica. I burned a rough mix for the artist last night. He's going....man, its 90% there! That's when I point to the EQ on the board and say....and not a knob turned!
