Looking for a big monitor ??

I am looking for a mid-field that will fill up a 20x20x15 room (approx.) I do not want to spend above 3k. I know that this is damn near an impossible feet especially given the "high end" nature of the post.

These monitors will be for checking mixing and a/b ing them with my main pair of NS-10 and Dynaudio bm-5's. They will also be for producing and clients who want to hear there stuff bang. I am thinking th BM-15s might do the trick but I was wondering if I would get the same volume and bang from Focal twin 6's? Or are they just a better overall monitor (more accurate). Are there others in this price range I am missing? I am not above buying used either!

Thanks for your knowledge slutz.

No problem with the Focal Twin6 monitors in that size of a room. They are extremely accurate and nice and loud. Bear in mind that with a room of that size you need to have some serious room treatment going on. The Focals will show you all your problems real fast.

The room is oddly shaped as it is about 4 or 5 feet wider in the back then the front. it is treated as well as can be but regardless it tends to be on the boomy side.

I have been reading on the Event Opals and new Adam a77x. I think I am between those 2, the bm 15 and the Focals.

I know I should demo them all, and probably will .. I just would like to start with the right one ha

JBL LSR32's. You can find them used for around a $1,000 a pair (or less). Pair them up with a Hafler 9505 or a bryston. Mount them in a wall/sofit and they work as mains in a small room (like yours).

Opals can be used as mid-fields too, they act like it.

I wouldn't chose Twins as a mid field. They're weak on the lower octives and too mid-forward for my tastes. Though I don't sell 'em either

Yeah don't get the twins as mid field's, Adam's usually have quite bit more output, especially better as mid field's.

Event Opals, Dynaudio, Adam a77x seems like good options to go for as your considering.

I got 2 TAD for sale: 2x15" JBL bass. 1xTAD4001 mid horn and 1 TAD super high of a type I don't know. ALl I can say is Timbaland has the same and they beat my ATC SCM100 by lightyears. Everyone knew ATC but every client prefered the TADs as did I. I finally sold the ATCs. SO why the TADS? Because I suffer hearing loss and Tinnitus and have to quit the studio.

However, they are 5k euro... But belive me they are really worth it. If you buy the parts alone you would lose double that money. It's a bargain.

Kind regards
Lawrece

Thanks Lawrence, but that is way above my price range. I have no doubt they are great, just not for me at this point especially as a b monitor of sorts, as my mixes translate well on my Dyn Bm5s since i have had them so long.

You will likely get on with the BM-15's the most considering your current dynaudio experience. Likely out come is you will get use to them quicker and work with them well.
