Neve (53 Series???) Console

No personal info on this console, but it looks like it might be a decommissioned Neve 53 series broadcast console from the University of Utah. Scroll to bottom for photos:

Looks like a 5316 with 33115's (fixed HF band at 10kHz)

Great little consoles, albeit limited routing-wise. The input modules aren't as "desirable" as the Class A Neve stuff but they sound every bit as good in my opinion.

Hi

Yes, it's a 5316 that's had a few mods... including a really gruesome front buffer and there are non-Neve connectors to the far left on the rear view.

Nice console.. they did not make many as the 51 series was just coming out and the 5106 replaced it.

I prefer the 5316!

The exact same console is now being flipped by the new owner for an additional 20k:

I saw that one too...

A mite steep IMHO... in these times its hard work justifying 60K spend on such a beauty.

I think 45-50K is the right price for these at the moment given the limited capabilities, as Im sure you could get a SSL 4048 and a few 10xx for the same sort of cash which would give you something infinately more flexible... but then again its THE SOUND we all crave isnt it?

Hi

Back around 1990 I sold a 36 channel version with 33114 channel amps to the Catholic Broadcast Corp next to Glasgow Cathedral for around 11,000 uk pounds.

They sold it a few years ago and I have no idea where it went. Gives you an idea of Neve inflated prices...

I wonder where they hid this one when I was there. We only had a Tac Scorpion in our studio.

I 'pulled the trigger' & put a deposit down today. I think it has some very nice features which aren't immediately apparent - it's a large frame, the patchbay can be removed & mounted remotely & it has a nifty pair of 33314a compressors included. I'm having it commissioned & rebuilt by Blake Devitt here in the UK. If there's any interest I can document the process on here.

I've got a 24 channel 5315, they are great consoles. The 33115 EQs are a bit simple.. but so am I, so they work for me.

Does anyone know what the little row of white faders are up in the master section? Those caught my eye right away...

Hi

My favourite console... Blake will take care of you, he's a good ol' boy that knows his stuff.... I taught him much of what he knows about Neve

Blake's been really very helpful, as has Mark T at FJ. I think I've bought something really special, very much looking forward to hearing it! ! It's been a long journey for the studio - Amek, sony, MTA, Neve 66, Neve V3, Melbourn & now the 5316 - 12 years on!

Well you'd be very welcome here at Electric. Lunch on me in Brighton - you deserve it for all the useful posts you've put up on here! Good to finally speak to you. That tour sounds like a great idea!
