My newest toy....

I just received my new amp today...

Pass Labs X-250

110 pounds of lovin' with a blue meter (granite slab purchased separate).

Sounds huge with the B&W Nautilus 802s.

She's puuuurrrrrty.

Brad, I have to ask, is it mono? Do you need two 110 lb. amps for stereo? Reinforced concrete floors for surround?

Again, she's puuuurrrrty.

Stereo, Class A, 250 watts/channel.

The UPS guy glared at me as I signed for it... hehehe

150 db dynamic range - I've never not heard an amp before. There is absolutely no background noise with thing.

My crappy dig camera doesn't do it justice...

Krell, Levinson, and Cello were the others, but this thing is unmatched, as far as I'm concerned.

I thought the 802s sounded good before...

That thing is cool, but I like anything with a Star Wars vibe to it.

I've heard that granite slabs for vibration isolation and the like are merely audiophile voodoo. Still, I don't think you would have bought the rock if it didn't do something for the amp. Do those slabs really help?

None of that voodoo here - I bought it so the amp isn't sitting on the carpet. The amp is so heavy that is sinks kinda low in the carpet and that will impede the ventilation from the bottom (it's Class A and runs hot). I chose to spend the some dough on a granite slab as it seemed kinda cheesy to put this amp on a piece of playwood, though the plywood would be every bit as effective...

aye carumba that baby looks armored enough to withstand a straight-on RPG hit and not even blink. An amp that commands respect. And here I thought I was badass scavening up a clean hafler 9500... although it has a nice poor-man's monolith vibe going for it .

Very cool, Brad.

The inevitable question: How much did it cost?

Hi Brad,

That's unfair comparison don't you think?

I could see the Krell,Levinson and Cello comparison, but the whole Pass Labs is euphonic coloration. Its supposed to have a sound, while the others go after transparency(or are supposed to that is).

I don't think so. Though I appreciate the reference to my company name, Nelson's designs are noted for their transparancy. You should read more about it on the website...
