Just checked out the Pro Audio Design press release on this thing, and they flat out say it's the successor to the embattled M-16 , and that it's "partially Asian-made". That's enough to steer me away from dropping a grand and a half. But you gotta love the name⦠"The new Telefunken AK47: when you absolutely, positively got to mic every mother****er in the room!" Take care y'all. |

Was going to try their 251, but I'm skipping town on that and any of their other mics. Why? I don't want to deal with a company that has no moral problem deceiving their consumers. Scroll down to post 68 and 69 of this thread if you haven't seen it already: ******//gearslutz.com/board/showthrea...t=55680&page=3 If they need to lie to you to get you into the drivers seat on one of their microphones, what else do they lie to you about? No thanks.

Why not look at the RED tube mic body that can be used with all of the BLUE Bottle capsules and old Neumann ones. They will be cheaper than that AK47 thing.

I have used and heard both, and no I don't work for Telefunken or any other manufacturer. Having said that, the Telefunken RFT mics sound better than a good portion of mics out there in it's price range, including the Peluso stuff (I know I'll catch some s**t for saying it, but it's my opinion and no one else has to agree with it). One thing to keep in mind is how many of you have actually heard the RFT stuff in comparison to the Apex 460? If you're just basing your opinion on the assumption that the mics are exactly the same, without actually hearing them for yourself, then you might be assuming something that is incorrect. I've actually heard both the M-16 and the 460 and believe me, they don't sound the same. They have similar characteristics, but the 460 is way more thin and brittle sounding. Also, the low end isn't as tight. Getting back to the AK47, the electronics are different. One major change is the tube. The M-16 has a GE 6072 tube and the AK47 has a Telefunken EF732 miniature tube. The other major change is the output transformer (I think it's an output transformer). Soundwise, the AK47 is also slightly warmer sounding then the M-16. I believe that it originally was slated to be the Alicia Keys signature mic, but the deal fell through. Anyways, I don't want to start any debates or anything like that, I just wanted to share an opinion. |
