Looks like a great studio Brotha!
The hardwood floors, stone walls, and vaulted cielings are very nice indeed.
I hope you make some great sounding recordings in those rooms!
Good luck!l

I really like the look of your live room. Looks like a very comfortable space to play music in.
By the way, does the name bassmurderer mean that you're a low frequency killer or does it mean you throw dynamite into ponds to kill the fish? Anyway, good luck with your studio and where the heck in the world are you?

Great looking live room. I've been thinking about building something similar to that in my backyard but wasn't sure how the V sloped roof would affect the sound. It looks like you treated the ceiling to correct any problems that it may have caused. Care to share what the panels are made out of?

Wow! I didn't know Benchmark and Manley were second rate prosumer. I guess you use some really boutique, high-end stuff.

fuuck
Oh, right. Like the great space, vibe, and (I'm assuming) good acoustics aren't going to sound fantastic on that gear.
And I would hardly call any of it prosumer. My Firepod, KRK RP5's, ibook, and Cubase LE- now THAT'S prosumer!

Can you please post your Studio Pics and Room. But yours...not your friend's studio? People are really being rude at this site lately...it sucks...

Cool place, I agree that it does seem a strange mix between sweet location vs not quite so good gear. perhaps you'll upgrade overtime? Anyway it looks like the kind of place I'd like to record. good on you.

word of advice though, I am always suspicious of studios that list their computer at the top of their equipment lists. Personally I think you should list everything else then say "oh yeah and we've got a computer that works too", that would make me feel much more confident about a studios abilities, priorities.

for those that want to know where he is look at the phone number

I'm confused, where do you all see the gear list? Or are you all being sarcastic for lack of one?

Pro-sumer gear + kick ass acoustic space still equals good recording.
Who cares about the gear... the man has a great studio. Gear can be added if needed. He started out right. You have to wait to see what kind of clients you are going to have and see what kind of gear they want or require. Better to invest in a kick acoustic space first rather than last.
Again, great place and good luck!

Nope, I don't use boutique gear.

Neve 1073, Urei 1176 rev B, Neumann U47, just the basics.

looks to me like its mostly DAW based mixing. hence the dual G5, dual displays, powercore, MCU, etc.
the Mackie board is probably used for bussing around hardware effects, monitor mixes, or perhaps just kept around for old sentimental value. nothing wrong with that.

16 manley pre's. yea thats SO prosumer! and what's that DAC-1 doing in there?

some basic in-house mic's, with access to rentals dependent on project/needs.
sure, a few other pre's, a couple quality LDC's wouldn't hurt.
but i'd rather mix in that control room, and track in that live room with that gear than through a the sluttiest gear in a second rate building with no vibe or atmosphere.
yea this is gearslutz, but if you can't get an inspired performance, no gear will help you.
i can see this facility capturing many an inspired performance.

Good luck man.

p.s. I have notice the rudeness lately myself. I've sent emails and PM's to a couple of daily harsh posters. Let's keep it friendly guys, if you feel compelled to be nasty take it somewhere else.

Looks really great!

Are the studio spread over several buildings with cabels running between them or is it just one big main building?

...and Kestral, IMHO, sometimes a great environment can do more wonders to the Music than a 1073...

Hi there bassmurderer,

I don't know if you've designed the space with the acoustic environment in mind? But I think that you have one beautiful place there. It seems like the kind of place one would build to fullfill ones own dreams! Change your blog. It kind of reads like you are used to amateure equipment and that you've read alot about being a pro enginner but have no experience!

My advice is for you to run competitions for local schools to use your studio or offer studio time for any battle of the bands competitions. Publicise the place and bring in cash pronto; unless this is soime tax right off thing or you are rich! I'd be building some gobos and fitting acoustically treated mini booths for track live whilst minimising bleed from your reflective looking live room.

From the look of things from your site you are advertising the studio as a residential type place but you don't really have the mic collection or the standard outboard kit to attract engineers to use your studio. If there is a local band you can trust then maybe you could use the space for them to rehearse to keep the money coming in.

Maybe you should emphasise that it's a good place to track acoustic ensembles. etc.

I hope the place brings you many joys!

Peace,
DHD

Its bass..as in the fish.
Thanks for all your comments so far. As you can probably tell, I spent big money on the room and acoustics. Not so much on the gear..saying that, 16 channels of Manley pres into an AD16x?...hello?
The mic/outboard list is dire i know.
(Sorry George Michael you will just have to go somewhere else whilst i build up my rep and equipment)

I knew that blog would bite me in the arse! at least its honest.

I will post some tracks soon..
