Excellent mics, sound so good slightly off source, not close-mic'ed, which in turn generally makes better recordings. Love these things, but would classify them high-end, not utility.
Utility mic? For me, that's a good old 421. certainly not the best, but will work in a pinch on anything, and very reliable. Utility.

MD441. They're forgiving and work for a lot of things...

Soundelux 195, MD441, R-121.

Use them on everything (allthough the R-121 less on vocals).

Greetings,
Dirk

AT4050 and SM7b. The RE20 is newer to my mic locker and I've loved it everywhere I've put it but I haven't tried it as much as I'd like before really calling it my new utility mic. I've got a 441 on the way too, we'll see what that does for me - glad to see it mentioned so many times here! Hoping it kicks the SM57's ass on snare, I don't love that on every snare.

U89 always delivers for me on any source, and it´s still in production.
