Thumbs up Focal Professional SM8 Analog/Digital monitor review in Mix

For those of you who missed it in the December issue, here is the online edition of the Focal Professional SM8 powered studio monitor review.

http://mixonline.com/mag/audio_focal_sm_powered/

As they have both analog (XLR) and digital (AES/EBU) inputs, they are perfect for any studio; Pro Tools, Nuendo or good ole analog.

Focal Manager software (Mac/Windows/Palm) time aligns the woofer and tweeter right to your listening position, and lets you set levels, delays, LF/HF shelving, X-over points, etc without getting out of your chair.

I love 'em, Fab loves 'em, but of course we're biased. Check out the review, then let me know if you'd like to hear them in your own facility.

On one hand, I can certainly sympathize with the approach of "Hey, I can't hear any difference, so why should I pay that much?". On the other, I wonder why anyone who can't hear a difference is recording, mixing, or producing records.

FWIW virtually every artist who has heard my SM8s has inquired about purchasing a set. They generally describe the sound as being similar to lifting a blanket off of the alternate, very expensive, nearfields I have. Everybody's finding that their mixes are translating very well to the outside world.
