Can tape reels be recycled?

I have several 2" reels that are ready to be retired. 'Hate to just throw them in the trash. Can they be recycled?

Thanks,

J~

Someone might want 'em.. you can get new tape on "Pancakes" which is a lot cheaper than buying it with new metal reels.

If no slutz scoop 'em up eBay is probably your go.

Sorry, I wasn't clear in my OP. I need to get rid of several reels that are full of tape that is worn out. Just wondering if the plastic tape is recyclable - it's several pounds per reel - think how many plastic bottles that equals! (I'm in San Francisco - we recycle everything here!)

Anybody here put full reels in the recycling bin?

Thanks!

J~

I'd be concerned about the toxic chemicals on the tape. I wouldn't want that in my water bottles. Might want to check with your local agency about it.

Just a quick follow-up. 'Researched it further. You are right sir. Magnetic tape is not recyclable due to it's chemical make-up, though it is reusable to an extent.
