" Fatigue city and they don't translate worth a darn."
...........
Lol
Genelec ain't that horrible XD
I find Genelec does the best job on subwoofer translate. So if you are wondering how you mix going to sound in sub system always check it in Genelec 8050/8250+, you won't be disappointed at the result. Adam and yamaha might be great for any two ways translation, but I still find Genelec has the best sub details(things below 70hz) to me.

Rumor has it that they will be on display (along with some other fun stuff) at the upcoming AES show in NY...

Lipinski Sound - Timeless Analog - products
  • One 1" (25mm) Neodymium Ring Radiator tweeter
  • One 7" (18cm) Glass Fiber Mid-Woofer
  • Frequency response: 63Hz-20kHz +/- l/4dB (38Hz-40kHz +/- 3dB)
  • Speaker-to-speaker consistency: +/- l/4d
That's a pretty astonishing freq response for a speaker that size to be that flat and go that deep. Makes me wonder what the phase & THD response is like, can't see it written on their website.

Focal twins, ns-10`s and s3x-h here. I usually start on the s3x-h`s whilst building vibe then start switching between the focal twin`s to straighten out any high mid presence problems, towards the end of the mix ill start x referencing on the ns-10`s, although im getting more and more used to dropping the ns-10`s out the equation all together, Focal Twins are EXCEPTIONAL.

K+H o300
(they stopped making the analog only version, so the K+H o300D)

Worth an audition. Very happy with mine!

I have to say that the Event Opals far exceeded my expectations and my expectation were high. I think they are an amazing buy at the price point and even more amazing when you consider that they sound better than monitors 2x the price (to me in my space 22x22x12).

Just my opinion, but worth a look and listen since especially since you would have $2k left over for room treatment or nice sub (not that you will need it)

I can't say what to buy, but I can suggest that once you've narrowed it down to 2 (maybe 3) try to get them in your studio at the same time and then make your final evaluations.

Do audition. Only you knows what will work best for you, and the only way to find that out is to try them out.

+/- 1/4 dB

Hi Ben from Lipinski --

Welcome to GS, it's always nice to see manufacturer's reps here.

The L70 spec says:

Frequency response: 63Hz-20kHz +/- l/4dB (38Hz-40kHz +/- 3dB)

That means the L70 is ruler flat, to within 1/4 dB. Would you like to post a graph? Please make sure the lines of the graph are no more than 1 dB apart, not the usual 10 dB. Otherwise, we won't be able to properly appreciate your achievement.

Or you could just admit that the spec is somewhat exaggerated. :-)

BTW, it's indeed possible to equalize a speaker to be ruler-flat on axis, using FIR DSP equalization to smooth every bump. Oddly, if you do that, you find that the speaker sounds unnaturally bright. Some theories have been proposed, but for the moment, it remains a mystery.

I agree that Genelec's are fatiguing, and mixes don't too transfer well to me.
I picked up a pair of NHT M20's and an S20...they sound SOOO sweet.
Discontinued by NHT over a year ago, you see them pop up on ebay every once in a while. Usually$1500-1800 for the set w/sub.

It could also be interpreted to mean that the response is within 5dB overall (+1dB to -4dB) from 63Hz to 20kHz.

Hi David,

I'll have to check to see if I have a graph handy that I can put up.

1/4 dB was a typo on the website which we just fixed. Thank you for catching it. The production model is able to stay within +/- 3/4 dB from 63Hz-20kHz. While we certainly have the specs to harp about, I wouldn't get too hung up on them. Please try to keep in mind that discussions like these (however interesting) are really not the best way to form an opinion about a loudspeaker. The best asset of the L-70 is its absolute transparency, which is not measurable, but audible by all standards.

In addition, this kind of response was achieved without DSP. Our target sound was designed in first so that we wouldn't have to electronically correct the fundamentals later.

Thank you guys for the interest!

Those Lipinski's are gonna be sweet. Used a pair in a mix situation and they blew my mind! Also the K&H 0300D's are great! Honestly, you can mix on anything as long as you "learn" the speaker.

The new spec for the L70 reads:

Frequency response: 63Hz-20kHz +/- 1dB (38Hz-40kHz +/- 3dB), which means the basic response will vary within a 2 dB window from 63Hz to 20kHz.

The +/-3 dB figure is probably just where the response is -6 dB down from flat.

So, it's pretty flat from 63 to 20 and starts rolling off quickly after that. Still, that's very good.

Interest has been very high, and we do look forward to opening up availability as soon as possible. They have been trickling out s-l-o-w-l-y for several months, but our goal is to go into full production before the end of the year. Unfortunately, I don't have a more specific timetable.

I will do my best to push out updates here, but if you guys ever have any questions about our products, please feel free to contact us directly at Sales@Lipinskisound.com for the quickest response.

Thank you!

I agree about with the Dyn's. The only thing they helped with is making lots of coasters.

+1 on the PMC's. I have a pair of the TB2S+, but it has taken me over a year to completely understand them.

I like the sound of the dyns for listening, but they never translated really well outside of my room.

Today, listening to two pairs of KS Digital monitors (C8-Coax and C55-Coax). Really impressed by C55, listen to them around 4 hours and I start to really love them. I will ask my boss to buy them in small CR (we have ADAMs S2A with Sub1 in main CR). These monitors have their own particular sound (as well as any others), but in my opinion are a good workhorse. Excellent detail, good study of space, a decent bass extension. Of the characteristic features - some "hump" of about 8 kHz, followed by a recession and a weakened "air".
PS: Forgive me if I misuse the English words, English isn't native for me.

I think an aptitude test is necessary for monitors selection.

I tried barefoots, dyns, yamahas and focals. hated the focals berylium tweeter and when I first heard the adams I was blown away by how smooth and open the tweeter and the whole upper range freq. was. got myself S#X-H and never looked back. So my vote goes for ADAM

Loving my PMC Tb2+ , much more neutral than my Focal Twins - the tweeter is too "shiny" sounding

.

My new favorite nearfields. Powered with Emotiva XPA-5's.

******//www.tyleracoustics.com/Images.../mon_wn_lg.jpg

I have two pairs, and moving toward a 5th for the center.

With the SEAS tweeters and woofers, they are simply killer.

For mid-field/full-range QC/pseudo mastering, I use Linkwitz Orions - also with SEAS drivers...

Again, the tweeter detail in these things is just incredible. Gorgeous.

FWIW, I really like both PMC and K+H speakers. They would have been among the next choices.

We considered Barefoot, as well.
