Mic pre choices

Ok, At the moment i'm using the pres in soundtracs board and now i'm looking
to add a few outboard pres for different flavors and alternatives to the board.

I've just recently acquired apogee AD16X to clock and inplace of the digi 001
(yes i know ) converters. So i'm starting "upgrade" slowly.

Most of the music i record vary from rock to metal and some acoustic stuff.
I'm looking to get about 8 channels of pres, and looking to spend upto 8K (USD)

These are the ones i've decided on so far:

Phoenix Audio DRS2 (2CH)
Pendulum Audio MDP-1 (2CH)
A-Designs Pacifica (2CH)
Daking 52270 C (2CH i think or are they sold as seperate units?)

I've heard great things about all the above, and have heard the phoenix in action,
but i have no way of hearing the others, as no store here in qld holds the brands.
And its a whole lot cheaper getting them from the US.

I'm still saving up the money so more than lucky they'll be purchace over a time span.

In conclusion, what are your recommendations? there are so many other pres i'd like to have also...
but until i win that lotto...

Thanks in advance,
Beck.

I've also been thinking about the chandlers and the great river.
Just like to add that, they don't have to be dual pres, they can be single.

Try the Groove Tubes Vipre. It's mono but there's 4 variable impedance setting and 5 different rise times (slew rates) which makes it many preamps in one box. Very versatile. 8 tubes!! I love it. I can make it sound vintage or very modern.

8 channels for $8k....

API 6 space lunchbox with 4 x API 512's and 2 x A Designs modules (they have the Pacifica and a few other flavors) or BAE modules... And an Aurora Audio GTQ2mkIII.

That's 8 channels that you can amass slowly for under $8000 and you'll have money left over to buy a mic or two...

I may on occasion talk about some of the products I am a dealer for in my posts.. and that's OK! I sell them because I like them. Not vice versa. It's more fun to talk about things you know and love, then things you don't.

Two personal faves are Phoenix DRS2 for attitude stuff, sort of a clean Neve (really works for everything though, killer pre) and Buzz MA2.2 where you want fast clean, pristine, open, and beautiful.

Ok so far i've re-placed the Pendulum with the Chandler TG2.

Others considered: Buzz Audio & API.
