Talking another doubt: 8900 or MLA2...

To owners of both compressors, or MLA2 owner.

I've a 8900 that I love, but I could invenst on some other change during next days (C12VR to VM1) so...

Considering I record soul and jazz music mainly, I actually own a (lovely) GML 8900. You'd change it with a Maselec MLA2? I use the 8900 mainly to track voices, then for drums tracking or mixbus or drumsbus moderate compression. I never used the Maselec, but I could change it with my 8900, investing also in the change of a C12VR (mine) to a Brauner VM1 (testing this w-end).

Thanks,

P.S.: no italian resellers of abovementioned products can post... understand P.? :-)

;-)

If you think the 8900 is "lovely", why would you want to get rid of it?........don't understand!

there's a demo-(g-g-g-g-g)-unit of the atomic squeezebox 2-channel for 5.5 k in the used gear section.

If it was me personally i would say no.

Don't like the tone of the MLA2 very much or the C12VR either.

I'm selling the C12VR for the VM1 that I'm trying right now. I love it for voices in hypercardioid mode: voice very focused.

You could always get another compressor instead.

The 8900 and the C12VR will be tough sells though.

I cannot explain myself correctly... I haven't enough money to keep the 8900 and buy another comp, or keep both C12VR and the VM1. Probably I'll keep the 8900 (it's a better choice to sell one of my 2 Eventide Orvilles, even if I use them as water) but I think that sell the C12 to buy the VM1 could be a good choice.

I like the smooth sound of the C12VR but I may prefer the VM1. Right now I'm going to record acoustic guitars with ELUX, C12 and VM1 to understand more of the mics.

Selling the 8900 could let me have some more cash to pay another comp, like the MLA2 (Kats says that the Trakker with Kats mode could be better) and have some extra cash for the VM1. I don't know if it worth to sell a C12VR that I like for a mic that I like more but asks me for my blood... :-))

I like the transparence of 8900, that's why I'd like to keep it.

I would not sell 8900. The mic seems more expendable to me. IMO the 8900 is one of the best compressors out here, but never been impressed by a C12VR. It ain't a C12.
