Pachyderm Studio on the Market

I'm not sure where to post this...

Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls MN was just listed for sale today. The house, property and studio listed for $299,999. This is the place In Utero as well as a slew of other hit records were tracked. If you're looking for a great deal on an amazing room this is it. Pachyderm's live room is unbelievable. It's kinda sad to see it just sitting there empty.

No kidding, 300 grand? I wonder how much of the gear is included? Pachyderm Studio

I live in Eden Prairie (about 50 miles away) and my house is worth more than that. I'm tempted to pack up and move!

All of the gear is gone, short of some patchbays. It's a 20 some year old building in need of tlc. But great room

So that great Trident board is gone now? What a shame.

Classic!

Just checked their website. Beautiful place that would cost ten times more if it were here near me in CT.
Sorry to see it go.

I worked on a couple albums there; fantastic memories of a great studio.

Studio was built in the 80s about 50 yards downhill from the house. Simply fantastic place. The house is a huge and gorgeous 50s/60s-style pad. Spread out with great views and an awesome indoor pool.

And, according to staff, straight-up haunted. It was built by a guy to raise his family, but some death interceded. Then, prior to the studio owner purchasing it, there was I believe a mob connection, and a death occured near the pool room.

The board was an 8068.

The house and land are like no other studio I know of. The house was built by a local wealthy man in 1963. He ran a malting business in town. I'm not sure when the studio was built exactly, but it was in the 80's. It was a great idea back in the glory days of recording(whatever that means). If you booked the studio you and the band could stay at the house. It is a quiet, scenic place to make a record.

The place itself in this area should normally be for sale in the 800's easy. It's for sale after a foreclosure and everything in the area is off by 25-50 percent.

Like I said before, it's hard to know that a great sounding room like that sits empty.

It was...that board was a pain in the ASS when I worked there a few times. Noise problems, channels randomly and intermittently dying...

I'll repeat what everyone else who ever worked there noticed...the room was ****in AMAZING sounding. Put a drummer anywhere, and a microphone anywhere else and it sounded good.

Even at $300k, it's gonna be on the market awhile.

Between the tales of the house being haunted and the fact that Nirvana recorded a classic there, perhaps a wise business plan might have the grounds serving as a tourist attraction rather then a recording studio.

Plus, you would not have to come up with a $350,000 just to get the gear up to snuff.

Shame...

Nothing beats that smashing Grohl intro fill to 'Serve the servants'..

Hoep someone with deeep pockets and a deeep affiliation with good musical heritage ponies up and restores it to its former glory.

300k? Are the property buildings about to collapse? Otherwise I can't understand such ridiculous price.
For that amount you can hardly buy an apartment over here (EU), or maybe a small piece of land to build a small house. In fact, I presently have a little over 3 acres of regular country land for sell at that same price (nothing but the land).

Is property that bad in the USA right now?

How do I get a showing? My wife said she wants to see it, probably because I told her it's haunted.

Her mother grew up in Cannon Falls.

Yeah, $300k is a pretty amazing price for a beautiful 6 acre property (with a stream going through it), huge house and separate studio building (which does sound incredible).

I think the $10k a year taxes has something to do with it!! I might even consider it if it wasn't for those taxes...

Shame that the board and everything else is gone. When it was working right it sounded incredible. Brent Sigmeth and I mixed Andrew Bird's Armchair Apocrypha record there and many other friends did work there over the years.

It will be interesting to see what happens with it.

I was afraid of that. Although the taxes on my house in Eden Prairie are up to nearly 6k a year. And I have just about enough equity in my house to buy it straight up.

The biggest problem I would have pulling it off is my three teenage daughters in school in Minnetonka. stike

FYI the taxes are reflecting when the taxable value was well over 1mil. I'd imagine taxes will be half or less. I'd like to imagine the studio will live on, but I feel that won't be the case. It also needs a good person in the drivers seat. That's been missing for a long time.

Sad. The listing doesn't even have the word "studio" or any of the history attached to it. There's no way you can build a room like that for that kind of price. Someone should snag it...... Wrong end of the country for me.....
