Thanks. Anyone know if he has done other rooms with favored acoustics? Interesting that his name is not more well known given the celebrated acoustics of Pachyderm.

Looks awesome, would be great to track an album there but I'm not so sure I'd be able to sleep at night. It definitely has that creepy Frank Lloyd Wright vibe. I live very close to Falling Water and have taken a tour twice, and it's one of the few places I've been to that can give me goosebumps on a hot summer day... Beautiful but creepy! Anyway, I like the vibe I get when I listen to Throwing Copper and In Utero, they have the magic that I don't feel much of in today's pop/rock.

Cool, keep posting more pictures! I still have the pictures I took out there at the open house a while back.

Ripped out the mains___. I recorded there before with Mudvayne and found the mains not to be my liking.. Put in Dynaudio M3's, We didn't change the drum room. But filled the back of the control room with rock wool. It turned out to be a major improvement.

Sounds like a good plan! I don't use them hear either so I was surprised to think you'd be into them

Was the back of the room wood before you filled it in

John Kuker, I am glad bought the place instead of me because this is WAY cooler than what I could have done. Cheers to keeping a Midwest treasure alive, can't wait to see it in person!

Wow! Like a great book that you just can't put down, I came across this thread late tonight and absolutely could not go to bed without reading all 10 pages. What a wonderful story with a fantastic ending (beginning!!!)

The CR looks just killer - as does the entire studio. You are indeed a lucky man John and I wish you the best of luck breathing life back into this great room!

I don't feel lucky! Haha I feel crazy for emptying my cache on such a thing by love knows no boundry____. 2013 you can rock the laptop! I just fell in love with the drum room and a famous local guy Leroy McCusker saved it. I was in over my head pretty quickly but he saved it or we did it's hard to tell. Either way it'll be good for 30 years and it's available for at least a lil while under my watch ha, Hopefully a long while!

Pachyderm

I recorded there twice, with two different bands. Each time we rented the studio for a weekend, got to stay in the house both times. Never noticed hauntings, etc. It's a remarkable place, to say the least. The house is amazing. The grounds are amazing. The studio is un-f-ing real. Brent S engineered both sessions, and is a wonderful person to work with in the studio.

When my band recorded there I recall him pounding on the Neve at different times because things weren't working... Funny in retrospect. We tracked to 2" tape and our tracks all sounded great. I'll never forget how he set up my bi-amp rig (Hiwatt and Marshall half stacks), and how he mic'd the drums in the main room. I'm glad Pachyderm is being restored as a studio, it's an amazing sounding place and an amazing experience. Wanna be a star for a weekend? Go record at Pachyderm regardless of the season - it's worth it.

I'm also building a new studio in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District, called Studio 648. It'll have a Neve 5104, Genelec 1032's, NS10's, and lots of old German/Austrian microphones. It's somewhat of a co-op, and I was pleasantly surprised to read this approach mentioned in this thread as being among the more viable models for modern recording studios.

Sweet Helios console! I'd love to see more pics of the place including the outboard rack. Glad to see this place still kicking.

It's been a crazy story. My dads been happy to be part of it. I'm glad it's in the hands of someone who will do right by its unique history.

I think it was 20 years ago in February that In Utero was tracked there... I'm getting old.

Brent and I were speculating like a couple of stupid kids for months over what would become of it. "How can it be pachyderm without a cranky 8068?" "What turd is going to put a Avid controller in there?" Seems its been answered... A long overdue rehab by my old man and a ****in Helios!
