Mix and Tracking room (experienced advice needed plz)

Hello fellow gearslutz,

I need advice on choosing which of my two rooms to track and mix in.

I don't have the energy to try out both since I'll be customizing the rooms in order to accomodate their purpose.

My dad and I built 20 corner 4 inch bass traps and 24 wall/ceiling 2 inch absorbtion traps for both rooms.

room #1 is 9 x 10 and 7.5 height
room #2 is 12 x 16 and 7.5 height

which of the two rooms are more recommended for tracking and the other for mixing?

Thanks for the advice!

Jason

I would much rather mix in the larger room.

Hope to get more help on this one, pretty important to us. I imagine most would say larger room for mixing, anyone ever faced with the same decision Thanks to all that can advise. All the best

That ceiling hight is going to be the biggest problem... You'll need plenty of absorbtion right above your mixing console and that will make it even lower....12 x 16 is OK for a mixing room. The smaller the room, the more bass problems, and the higher the required reverb time...

You should buy this book... "How to build a small budget recording studio: F. Alton Everest..." I think there are some other good resources and ideas that I have seen floating around on this forum. Maybe someone will post them here...
