Yay. My first gearslutz post.

That Lynx Aurora/Apogee 16x caught my attention. I preferred the clarity, depth, and sharpness of the mix with the Lynx, but the Apogee had its own thing going on that still sounds very good. I'm still using an M-Audio 1010lt and I'm just trying to figure out a somewhat practical dream setup.

Anyway, besides Lynx and Apogee, what are some other great mutlichannel (16 or so) converters in the sub $5k range?

PS: Most of what I record is metal (just about every subgenre) and some classic rock stuff with a hifi, almost overproduced edge.

Uh... so what's the questioion... with $5000.00 which converters would you buy... or.... what are some other options besides. Apogee/Lynx???

If it's the first... I would stick with what I bought... 32 channels of Lynx Auroras. If it's the 2nd question... I don't think there is anything else in that price range that is as good as those two. Lavry, and Mytek are both great... but I seem to remember they are quite a bit more. Unless you are talking about fewer channels... then you can add those in... and look at Prism.

I'd buy an apogee DA16 (not X) for $1500 or so and use the other $3500 towards a cranesong Spider.

Try Mytek!!!
They have a new A/D D/A 192kHz 8 channels ~3500$. Or look at E-buy for former versions 96kHz. Great converters! I like them much more than Apogees.
