A&M was cool! I guess it's "Henson" now?

Oceanway Studio A was nice too.

And Mad Hatter was great as well.

Dreamland's not too shabby...oh, it's in New York.

While I wouldn't put us at the level of OceanWay I like to think that AudioLot Studios is a pretty high end facility here in LA (Hollywood Hills). We recently had a client cancel their booking at Westlake in favor of coming here. We're definitely a less "corporate" vibe with a heavy focus on personal attention.

Drummers love Sound City.

Orchestras love Oceanway.

Something cool about going downstairs at Capitol. I love the vibe and history there.

Patch bay lovers love Ocean in Burbank.

For vocals nothing beats the mens room at Brennan's Pub.

I know someone who is working there this week, so I assume their still there. We would have heard about that closing pretty quickly around here.

Could someone define High-End Studio?

Seems like we are merely making a list of every studio in town that has an SSL or a Neve.

My definition:

High-quality staff. High-quality acoustics. High-quality equipment. High-quality services.

High-quality: Operates perfectly, no excuses.

Staff: friendly, smart, willing.
Acoustics: Does what you need for your gig (dead, live, isolated) without any defects.
Equipment: Has what you need, and it always works.
Services: Keeps you smilin' during a long day.

To me most of them are all about the same depending on the consoles. You can make great music in any of them. To the OP what's the point of the thread; are you looking for a studio for a specific project?

Sound City is still around, got a quote from them a couple months ago. Email is slow and they really need to get a website back up. It's funny how many studio managers I've talked to don't use technology to promote, not a good idea in this day in age. Some places are just generally busy but even those places have regular websites.

Just tracked drums at Ocean in Burbank and dang it's amazing! Also had drums setup by Mike Fasano, definitely a great idea!
