Mix buss compression

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but I really hope that people begin to understand that there's no such thing as a magic setting that works for any specific genre on any specific piece of equipment. Yes, there is a sweet spot, but it's usually song specific. This is especially true on the mix buss. I understand the manual gives a particular setting that's a good starting point, but they admit that it's nothing more than a starting point and that it would need to be changed/altered.

In fact, if I remember right, in his book Zen and the Art of Mixing, Mixerman mentions that mixing is an art in chasing your tail, and that it is no more readily understood than on setting compression settings on the mix buss.

I think you'd be better served studying how to appropriately set a compressor (in other words, learning best practices for compression-setting), and then apply that to your work. Best wishes.

**Let it be known that I'm not suggesting that you are asking for a magic setting or that you don't know how to set a compressor. I'm speaking in generalities so that others reading this won't be led to believe things that aren't true. If the shoe fits, I hope this helps, if not, please don't take offense...that wasn't my intention.

Ive found that most of the the times when Im nailing the 2 bus my settings are usually anywhere from 2-7 on the attack and release and the hard threshold is from off to +7(estimation), Mix 2-3, filter 50-180, gain 5.5, The nail also seems to work really well on non 2 bus material... I track vocals through it with a faster attack, slower release, and no filter. It can also sound really nice when pushed just a little on certain things although im not sure if this is good practice for a hybrid unit.
