preamp + finalizer ok for tracking ?

I am just thinking to sell my Finalizer to help financing a new Preamp / EQ / Compressor or a whole channelstrip.
At the same I have had the idea to just getting new Preamps and keep the Finalizer in order to use it in my recording chain - rather than to buy a complete new chanelstrip.

Did anybody use the Finalizer for tracking or can imagine how good/bad quality that may be ?

I can't see the point in tracking with a Finaliser. That's digital processing, after the first D/A stage. The advantages of eq/compression while tracking is that they are applied before the first D/A stage, allowing you to make better use of your bit depth.

IMO - you are better off tracking with just a preamp, and leaving the eq/compression until mix time. At which point you might consider using the Finaliser, or other plugins, or possibly routing to an analog device.

I tried using Finalizer's compressor for tracking once or twice, but rather for fun
I haven't found it usable at all. Indeed it's better to track just with a good pre...

Wouldn't be my first choice for a tracking EQ or comp...

But irrespective of subjective sonic opinions, keep in mind that most of the cool stuff a Finalizer can do involves a "lookahead" delay. So unless you have a Finalizer on *every* track while recording (and/or are prepared to do some annoying track slipping after every single overdub) I think it would be more trouble than it's worth.
