Question for Origin STT-1 Owners

Hi there

If you upgrade the tubes in this unit to Telefunken NOS do you upgrade all the tubes or just the one in the VT preamp gain stage and leave the rest as standard - otherwise it looks very expensive to me to do all 5!! It appears on the Millennia website that 2 are Telefunkens and the other 3 are changed to Mullards - it's a tadd confusing to this tube virgin. "All change please"

Thanks

Trebor

I just changed 2 when I did mine. Wasn't an earth shattering change as I recall. I sold mine to pay for other stuff (wish I still had it). Have you lived with the stock tubes for a while and are wanting to try something different?

Thanks for the replies

I emailed Millennia and now understand more about these possible changes - but just wondered what users in the field (so to speak) were doing.

I've only had mine for 2 days - so I suppose I haven't out grown the STD tubes - it's just since I started posting here I'm getting, well ........ "more slutty"

Thanks

I know the feeling. I just found it to be a waste of money in that I loved the solid state setting so much anyway that the switch to tube topology was usually enough without really needing the subtle bit of 'whatever' the exotic/vintage 12AX7's added. I'm just saying I didn't hear the $$'s worth of difference. Context being busy pop/rock stuff. YMMV of course.
