Thread Starter | Anyone use one of these punchblock patchbays?
Has anyone ever used one of these punchblock style patchbays? Any pro's or cons? Im getting ready to put together a new bay & am just looking at some options.Seems like a cool setup, and looks easy to change things around in the future.Any advice or user feedback...Thanks. |

i got mine from mr patchbay -- good prices, good service and he includes a punchdown tool if you need it. be forewarned that there's nothing smokefree about his facility; you know as soon as you open the box.

| ADC Punch Down Bays
They're great. Built like tanks and will give you years of faithful service. I have predominately worked with these style of ADC bays but be careful when putching down as any damage to the rear connector and you can kiss having a solid connection good bye or renders that point useless .Also check whether its normalled or 1/2 normalled etc etc as these are straight wired internally and have no jumpers to change or mix normalling configurations so its 96 points of normalled or 1/2 normalled etc etc. Have fun! ( 96 + points of bantam!!!)

I wired a studio with 4 of the adc tt bays that were bought from mr. patchbay. It was pretty straight forward and has been hassle free. God, did it save some time... ERic |

I use Bittree bays. I think this is the model I have. Fully programable, no soldering, etc. Had em 4 years now with no problems and have really appreciated the fact that I can change my studio setup painlessly.

Our studio's main two racks have them because we change equipment from time to time and they facilitate easier installation than having to solder new ends on the runs to the patchbay. This way if we add something or a new unit has different connectors we have pre made tails hanging around... punch, punch, punch... new line installed... new unit in the rack in under 1/2 an hour. If you're not prone to changing your equipment as often as you change your socks then you might want to skip the added expense and initial installation labor. When you run the lines from your bay to your outboard racks just make sure you leave a good amount of slack inside the rack on any of the unused lines and you should be fine ["wire stretchers" are very expensive... it's far less expensive to make sure your wires are a couple feet longer than you think they need to be]. Best of luck with it.

Bob at Mr. Patchbay is THEEEEEEE MAN! He's even hooking me up with some small odds and ends. I grabbed a few ADC bays from him. ******//home.flash.net/~motodata/patchbays/right.html

I have one of those sitting in my garage.... they work well. Those style punch binding posts work well with stranded wire. Stay away from bays that have TELCO style punch blocks because those blocks are designed for solid wire like the phone company uses. I have had to use them in the past and they constantly need re-punching. Danny Brown |

I wired my whole studio with the adc punch downs and they work fine. I got the bays for free but I would have rather had sodder bays once you sodder that's it . Wires can pull out on those adc's or any punch down or short with other posts easier than sodder bays plus it's critical to have really good strain relief, with sodder it's practically already strain reliefed. They don't save that much time either with install
