rosetta 800 vs 200

i see the rosetta 200 has a few things that the 800 does not have and was wondering what would be the main features that could persuade someone to spend that much cash on 2channels of adda, rather than the 800 when you can get 8 channels of adda for not a whole lot more.... per channel the 200 is much more expensive... curious. thanks. matt.

Sometimes it's quality and not quantity. I own an Lynx Aurora 16 and I'm really happy with it. Before I was using the stock converters on an Alesis HD24. That said, I'd rather have 8 channels of the Aurora than 24 of the Alesis. Just depends on how many channels you actually need. If you're tracking a whole band at once or a complete trap set, than more is better. If you're just doing dubs than a couple channels are more than enough. I'd definetly go with the converter that gives you the best result for what you're willing to spend. If you can find someplace to test them out before you buy, that might make the decision a whole lot easier. Words really can't begin describe certain things, especially AD converters. I'm not familiar with the two units you've mentioned. Best thing is to try them out first. I don't think there is a "perfect" converter (...lord knows if one did come out, there'd be something better in 6 months), just whatever works for you...

If you need SRC - and need only 2 ch - get the 200. If you want or need 8 ch - get the 800.

It is as simple as that.

my question has not been addressed yet.... i thank you for the responses but what i'm asking is WHAT FEATURES would drive someone to pay $875 per pair of adda (rosetta 200) vs. $343 (roughly) (rosetta 800) per pair of adda?

“CODA”: The “Aptomizer” Level Normalizer, Sample Rate Conversion (SRC), and Apogee’s “UV22HR” for superior dither to 16-bit, and Full channel metering.

The 800 has none of these. I own an 800 and I figure as long as I never use any of these features, I'll never miss the fact them.

I would miss not being able to record a drumkit.

i was also thinking of getting the 800 just because it wasn't much more $, however i didn't really need the extra i/o (synth/sampler music) and i was cash strapped so i got the 200. i don't use any of the extra doo dads on the 200 except for the metering which IS helpful. if i was doing any live music i would get the 800. i love my 200. sounds very very nice.

The converters them selves are the same ,
the cost of a Face Plate, Box , steel , connectors , hands on , setup .... are all real.!
It really is not that Much MORE expensive to just add AD DA , to an already completed Setup.

The 200 has good Brite LED readouts, It Also has RCA S/PDIF, and other connects...
It is about features,
if you only need 1 channel why pay more ? The price is lower , but so will be the resale .

Actually the 800 does have the UV22HR.
