I would think it would have to do with what your space is like and how our plans could be any help to you. Plus, many of us paid a lot of dough for them so I doubt you are going to be getting a lot of offers to have pdfs of studio plans sent your way. *smile*

I think if you ask for general floorplans

you might get some sent. Do a google search for recording studio floorplans, and save those you liike to your harddrive. Hope this helps.

uuh, oh, of course I do not ask for anything else than general floorplans here!!!
sorry, if this wasn´t clear...
I do not expect that anyone sends me any secrets, or something he paid for, thats for sure!

all I am looking for is some inspiration. and I have no place yet, but I am thinking about the possibilities.

Thanks again!

This doesn't include the lounge, but this was the design.

not mine but I was about to email someone about a design like this and what problems might arise.

Riad, can you tell me your experiences with the sliding glass doors?
I love this design, but I´m not sure, the doors are soundproof enough??
any bad things about the doors to say, that turned out later? would you do it again?

Thanks!!!

Ahh, the german school of thought. Not because I want to be a brat, but isn't it so that if you have used your design, then it is of no further use, and helping out a fellow slut to see how he could maximize his/her potential would not lose you anything, but maybe gain you decibels in slut heaven?
(Quietly dons flamesuit)

I understand the part where the design must fit your space though. Every space has it's limitations, and at the end of the day the final design is always going to have many compromises.

There is a wealth of information to be found at John Sayer site, the site itself as well as the forum. So far I have found nothing better, I am looking as well...

I have been looking into prefab modules, but they all seem to be poorly designed, very soundproof but with all paralell walls etc.

The search continues...

Absolutely love the doors. Very sound proof, great visibility, and easy access. The doors were about $600 each, so $2400 for all 4.

The manufacturer is Silverline.

Here's one I'm in the process of building. That octagon design is the ceiling slope with a skylight in the center. Even though this is a CAD rendition I originated all the ideas within SketchUp and then passed it off to the structural experts that are doing the building. Even designed my desk with SketchUp to get everything properly located.

Hi there

Here's what I built -

Floorplan layout and lots of pics. If you hover over the storage room you can see some construction pics.

Good luck in your build!

I just learned 3D rendering today... isn't sketchup cool?

this is what i want to turn into a lil mix room... speakers go exactly where you'd think, opposite end from the relaxing area.

Now where to place the treatments? probably the first thing to do is replace the shitty masonite with 3/4" plywood.. but i'm not sure where to go from there. corner traps? of course. first reflection killers? of course.

Will it be a big deal to have one "stone" wall and one wood wall? how do i treat the ceiling? how are my room dimensions?

questions, questions..

Your room is backwards....... You want the ceiling and walls to get wider and taller at the back of the room.

it's not backwards, it's symmetrical!

...and tallest in the middle.. it's hard to see from the perspective I guess.. but if you look at the dimensions it's tallest in the center... I should put a measurement on the back wall to indicate it's 9' also to make this more clear.

You're right.. the jpg does look like the ceiling is only sloped on one side.. i stared at it for a good 5 mins and could easily see how someone would think that... I'll add another measurement.

so it doesnt really matter which end I use other than there's a door in the way... which happens to be the front door... i'd rather ppl enter the back of the room than the front for obvious reasons.

a few grand should be enough. I'm renting so I dont want to go too hardcore but my landlord also doesn't really care what I do and I plan on living here for at least a few more years. The location is good, the neighborhood is nice, and my rent is cheap.

So I'd like to focus primarily on adding wall treatments which can be moved and taken with me should i decide to move locations... beefing up walls with some plywood, paint etc is fine tho... its just not my house so I don't want to go too crazy sinking money into it.

so let's set the budget at around $5k. USD... AC included.

Quote:
HVAC,
I was looking at split-type AC units but i'm not sure how to go about it. So AC is a must, just not sure about the HV part.

Quote:
machine room,
no problem there. I'll update the rendering to include a few more rooms I can use for these purposes. I don't have a lot of loud machinery tho and I like to keep the 1/4" in the room with me. A single A810 is not loud enough for me to worry about it and my mac is pretty quiet.

Quote:

I'm not a big fan of iso rooms and I have access to a local studio if I need to record live drums, loud GTRs, etc. I'm primarily interested in making a one room mixing setup that sounds good enough to record simple vocals in.

I have access to another room down the side hall that's small but very live.. lots of concrete. I'm not sure yet if it's a useful live or a horrible live yet...
