Chandler Mini Mixer summing calibration in PT

I'm enjoying the Chandler Mini mixer as a summing mixer for the most part but I running the faders in PT quite low to avoid distorting the Chandler going in , should I calibrate the 192 Digi output at a lower level as recommended in the MIX review, so I can get the individual track faders higher or does it make any difference? .... i.e. am I losing bit resolution this way?

Yes, running the ProTools faders at 0 would be better.

What makes you think you're getting distortion at the input of the mixer stage?

You're not going by the meters, are you?

the Mix article for one thing Mike ..... but I found that the top end was smearing out where I normally run my Digi 192 levels then I would quickly go back and do an ITB mix to A/B and find it to be much brighter and present..... so I experimented and found when I pulled the whole mix down and used more output gain with the Chandler and make up with the SSL limiter things sounded much brighter and present...but with the bigger console warth that we are looking for..... Jay Joyce mentioned recalibration at a lower output from PT but I havn't talked to him since to find out exactly what the numbers are etc...... what's your impressions of this?

I experienced a similar phenomenon when demoing a Chandler Channel a few weeks ago...in order to get even a modest signal into pro tools I had to absolutely crank the TG channel on a pretty loud close mic'ed guitar cab. This resulted in too much coloration from the pre so I settled on a weak signal and a somewhat reduced digital resolution...when I read the Mix article it all made sense.

My question is, how do I go about calibrating the i/o on my digi interface and is this possible with the lowly Mbox/PTLE. Is it a hardware issue or a software issue? My previous use of outboard pres were run through the lovely Apogee Rosetta 200's Learn Function which made calibration to the converters a no-brainer.

very interesting thread, always into learning how to get more depth, space, warmth etc. ITB !i too have PTLe 7.3 w/2 lowly outs..was curious about Apogee's Ensemble ..the kid at the guitar center was really selling it hard (along w/ everything else lol) as a both a pre and a converter...if anyone can point me in the direction of a good article on converting i appreciate it!love to listen to some shootouts as well ,have a great weekend!
