Amtec PEQ-10 limited run

Hi everybody,

after 8 years in production and hundreds of units sold, the PEQ-1A/PEQ-10 family is to be ended.

Only 70 units of PEQ-10 will be ever made.

The reason to end the range is due to availability (actually lack of it) of parts, mainly transformers which are critical to the PEQ's sound. We have a stock of these parts and will manufacture that 70 units from our inventory, keeping a number of transformers for warranty repair, even though not a single transformer ever broke.

AMTEC is not going to close down, we're alive and well and expect exciting future with our next products.
The Phanzen, phantom-powered compressor is and will be in constant production, as will be the next product- phantom-powered equalizer called Phantone.
Additionally, there will be limited runs of various tube and solid-state compressors and mic preamps.

As an owner of 4 of these, I can honestly say there is no equal in Low end! Maybe I need 2 more before they go....Fantastic EQ's.

Hey Lukasz, sad to see the line end, my PEQ-1A is a favourite. That 16Khz is beautiful too...Well done.
All the best with the newer products.

Wow, thanks for sharing. My 2 PEQ 1As are the most used piece of equipment in my studio. I have to save up for a couple of PEQ-10´s before this ends. Thanks for making such great gear

Hi Lukasz,

I have two PEQ-1A's and use them daily. Truly wonderful EQ's! Deep colours and always sounds fantastic! Sorry to see the line end...

Good luck with the new compressor etc... Sounds very interesting!

Just to let you know, we decided to double warranty from 3 to 6 years for all the EQ's that will be ordered and for all the PEQ-1A/PEQ-10 units already sold.

Damn, that's pretty sad that PEQ-10 will be discontinued.. I have had a pair of them for several years now and they've always been a source of amazing bass tones!
Let's hope Lukasz will go on with other great products. The Phanzen seems to prove there's no point to be worried about the Amtec's future

We've got a batch on the way to MA...also hoarding a couple for the studio. We let our prototype PEQ-1A go and it was absolutely a mistake. It'll be good to have 'em back in the rack. All kick drums will rejoice.

Exciting to hear of these new AMTEC devices, but I am still in love with your PHANZEN!!!!

And, indeed all the Gearslutz should know the PEQ10 is still available to order,

peace

Hello NickelironSteel!

It sounds to me like you found some hardware that you thoroughly enjoy! That's great!

I will say, the AMTEC product, is not exactly meant to sound like a vintage pultec or made to clone any one design. Its an original piece, inspired by the classic, with its own unique flavor. Now, the PEQ10 has become a collector's item, and has been sought out for its design and result.

It is a very pure sounding tone shaper, with miles of dimension and space. Great Tone and the bottom is HUGE!!!!! but not in a colored way...the image and clarity is HUGE...Even though this equalizer is not as colored as vintage units, it does have a beautiful euphony to it, that is just wonderful to my ears.

Good luck to all,

Hi,
the concept of the Phantone, the new EQ, has been changed since my original post. Its current consumption would be too much for the phantom-power standard, so the Phantone will be a stand-alone product, with output stage, power supply, line in-line out, etc. It will be a dual-channel device with additional tape-like saturation section.
The name will stay though, because I like it.

Regarding the PEQ-10, yes, it's still available.

Also, there are changes to our distributors list:

Man, the AMTECs are just wonderful. I loved the switched knobs. It makes everything sound good out of them. I was inspired to build my own pultec from these AMTECS. I thought I would have saved money - nope, of course I did put in higher end parts that manufacturers would not dare touch but there you go.

These AMTECs are amazing - I am sure they will go fast.
