Please ask for my question:

And What ar the differences between SSL 9000J and XL9000K
What are the lowest (possible) prices of this used consoles ?????

Hi
Why not go on the websites of Neve and SSL and get the brochures sent to you (or downloaded) Contact one of the many console resellers for used prices and possibly brochures. If they want to sell it they will send stuff to you and talk you through the options.

As they all cost a fourtune I'd try them out first if it's for your own use....if it's for client's use go with the ssl9000j they seem to be a lot more reasonable used than a new 9000k (though the computer is a bit "quaint" on the 9000 the sound is almost identical)...I'm sure the 88r is nice, but everyone knows how to use the ssl, at least in LA which helps for keeping booked...didn't see where this studio is going to be.

Personally I think the AMS-Neve 88R is just as good of a console as the SSL XL9000K. I'd use both in a two room studio but with different application depending on the stage of music production, & the type of music being recorded/mixed. The 88R controls Pro Tools, & Nuendo. The SSL has a larger user base.

Do yourself a favor, & contact a sales rep for detailed info. on either console. But, definatly work on either one for a couple of days to see how life is with one.

Only way to know for sure: have both manufacturers send one out, and see which sounds better in your room.

had a 56 channel J offered to me for about $150/$160K some months ago. there aren't too many 88Rs in the used market, though i've seen one or two lately. don't expect to get those for $150K though.

the Neves are very nice (not their best board in their history) . . .the SSL would probably bring more clients your way (sad to say) . . . 9098 is a nice board but again, SSL seems to be the choice for bringing clients.
