Thread Starter | Own entry-level Joemeek VC3v2 mic pre-amp. Considering Avalon M-5. Advice needed. High (get it.. hi... high-end...) I use a PC + Logic. Music is 100% midi. The only audio is vocals. (Rap artists and R&B/soul/pop singers). The mic I use is the Joemeek JM47 + VC3v2 mic-pre. I record in my room and the room needs work. For an example of how the vocals sound: Davey G - How Bad Do You Want It? One upgrade I'm considering to get better quality recordings is the pre-amp. I'd like to get some feedback on what it will mean in quality-difference if I replace my Joemeek VC3v2 with the Avalon M-5. I totally understand that having a pro-vocal booth and a Neuman U87 + what I record on is essential. These things.. I don't have yet. OK I'd like to hear from all you guys who know about the performance of Avalon. Thanx!!! |

| Avalon will work just fine. You could probably get the sound you want for less money though. Chandler has a new pre called the Germanium that got a good review in tape op that may cost less than an M5. Chameleon audio pres also got good reviews in the latest tape op. They're cheap. I haven't heard either. If I were you I'd get a good mic before a good pre. What's the point of amplifying a crap mic really well? |
