Another SSL Mix Buss Comp Question

Ok, i just wanna try and find out for certain if the older version is better, the same, or not as good as the new x-logic mix buss compresser.
I am about to purchase one, and there seems to be some people saying the older ones are better, but i have just read a reviev in sos magazine that seems to say that the new ones are. Also some people are saying that they are both the same.

If anyone knows for sure then that would be great.

They're the same except for the front panel.

You may want to consider the Alan Smart C1 as well. Other's have commented here as well regarding how similar it is to the older G384s, and you'd be saving some change as well. I've owned both and I thought they (C1&384) were incredibly similar.

I haven't heard the new X logic ones, but the old 384s are great for some gritty midrange push. The Smart C1 which I also have is similar in nature but a bit cleaner and was my two buss comp until Justin at RMS put out the Super Stereo Compressor which is cleaner then the Smart C1 but has the same balls.

If you want to really save some (A LOT of) change, and are handy with a soldering iron, you might look into the Gyraf clone-

Very similar (identical?) unit, for under $200 in parts and a few hours soldering...
