BASF 911 vs RMGI 911?

Is there any difference between NOS BASF 911 tape and new production RMGI 911? Which one is better, or this "naming" is only similar? I mean, used BASF to this day but found that RMGI has tape named "911" and everyone seems rave about it.

hm?

New tape

I've had bad tapes from both ATR and RMGI. Both companies handled the problems responsibly. I used BASF for a long time (pre-RMGI) and aside from a couple bad batches, I haven't noticed a difference. I especially liked the 911 more than the Quantegy products on transports that weren't exactly up to snuff as it seemed really forgiving.

In any case, the quality of tape (wear, formula stability, etc...) is really better than has ever been before. You don't get the same coloration that you would enjoy from 456 but you can get a similar sound by not using modern machines. It's funny how all the characteristics that we wanted tape not to exhibit in the nineties has come to be the defining value of the media.

ATR is my current favorite.
