Best Neve/API style console

Anyone here have any suggestions for the best Neve (I want a Neve) style console/mixer I can get for around 5-8g's? I only need 8 channels.

thanks,
Blake

Perhaps because $6 to 7 thousand for a Kelso is a bit over the top?

or have I lost touch with the "vintage value" of these things?

What's the story with the Kelso? It looks like a broadcast board, but I don't know anything about it.

The modules listed don't seem to be any of the "magic number" ones, but I'm definitely not an expert...

yeah, I wish I didn't have to deal with "vintage value" but most of my effort goes to rock music, and I need the beef. transformers are a must. I wonder what Daking, or Trident would charge for an 8 channel mixer...

Those are not 33114 modules.

These are.

Your budget may get you 2 or 3 33114 modules

Your not really going to get dick for $5-8G's if it has the "N word" on it... you're probably better off just getting some modules and moving on with your day.

Hi

The 8301 Kelso, and its 16 channel brother the correctly numbered 5306, are nice little consoles, built with all the TLC that Neve put into their products, but they lack a little for features.

Typical unusual aspects for a Neve include a 2 band EQ with no means of de-selecting it, nor is there a phase switch. The unit has a single XLR input and adds a 10Kohm -35dB pad on the input to create a Line input.

There's no channel output or easy way of achieving one without extra amplifiers. There's no pre-fade insertion due to the lack of a balanced output from the 3116 channel amplifier.

So don't expect the kind of features you'd get on a BCM10!

They are nicely built and sound good but an 8000 music console they ain't!

News alert- boring, I know, but the bloke in HongKong is , as far as I can tell, completely on the level- I've already bought two 80's Neve channel strips off him. He's very slow but otherwise OK and the modules arrived so well packed I could hardly get them open.

Seems unfair to let him get slagged off when he actually came up with the goods.

Of course, YMMV.

It's good to hear that Kelso(if not priced right) is at least going to get to whoever pays for it.

I spent some time researching alternative consoles(putting my Neve lust aside) and found that the Neotek Series II has a pretty serious following, and can be had for a reasonable price. I figure it's a tad(understatement I'm sure) more transparent than a Neve, but the general consensus is that they sound good(which is good enough for me). Do any of you Gearslutz have experience with the sound and reliability of these consoles?
