from the few times I had hands on with the 192 ,
we seamed to like the Apogee Rosetta 800 I had better,
so we used that for the Main converters.
The 16X is even better then the 800 ( BB clock) so I think you would feel a difference with the Apogees.
I didn't upgrade to those as I only needed what I had ,
... and for my Golden channel, with all my shootouts ,
I ended up Loving the HEDD 192 best of them all, so I got that .

if you´re working with PT, this is the LAW.
Apogee is not supported, which means, youre f***ed if it doesn´t work.
I´d never do it. and If you can buy a HD3, the you can buy 192s. You should know your stuff...

(sound arrogant but is not inteded to do so!!)

I've recorded/mixed a lot of stuff through 192's. They work fine for me.

Might wanna try both and compare. Wouldn't hurt. Gotta find what works for you.

Sorta looking at the same decision here... although I have plenty of time before I have to commit.

The biggest issue I see is the lack of automatic Plug-In Delay Compensation if you decide to ever mix in the box and you want to use analogue inserts in the ProTools mixer. I've heard that with the Apogee's, this is a PITA. There is a work-around, but you have to do some manual shifting of audio in some cases.

But, if your SSL has plenty of channels and you never ended up in that situation, it comes down to which you prefer the sound of, I guess.

I actually posted a response, but it has since disappeared.

Let's see if it returns.

Stewart, we are upgrading Gearslutz, so it might be some glitches in the "matrix"....

read up on the advance mode for all your digital I/O needs; a tricky way to use the units.
I'd say to A/B them if you can and come up with your own conclusion - it's the only way you'll really be satisfied with what you end up with.

apogee

Ive used both extensivley and at the end of a mix i am always the most pleased---i find records to be easier to mix when they have been recorded through apogees instead of 192's---the 192's are much grainier and lack dimension in comparison.
