Unbelievable EBay auction!

Check this out : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

Read it really carefully....

Did you spot the deliberate mistake: Yep this "Pro Audio Dealer" is selling VGA *IMAGES* of audio gear!

Is this deliberately misleading or what!?

And when the buyer finds out the truth and backs out, the seller will undoubtedly post negative feedback claiming that he was straight up in his ad.

Twisted world we live in.

Why does the seller need to post the specs and reviews of an item that he's only selling a picture of?

And why would a picture require pickup only? Strange.

I guess if in the next few days you see a guy walking around London with a picture of an LA2A rammed up his arse, there's a fair bet he may have been the seller.

I believe the winning bidder could charge deception given the statement in the listing: "No expense has been spared to guarantee that this LA-2A will bring that classic sound to your recording." A picture can't affect sound, while the seller claims that "this LA-2A" will. Still a waste of people's time. dfegad

Let's screw with this guy!

I emailed him and said that if he had a BUY IT NOW button I would and would pay top dollar... just curious how much what he was selling weighed. Let's see what he says!

This kind of slim really pisses me off! Some poor guy could very well get ripped off (and being dumb enough to fall for it isn't fair game).

Hi

I don't know when he added this note near the bottom of his long description

"Also to reiterate, this auction is for a .VDA Targa type image of this unit that we love so much, hence the 10 pence starting price. Please do not bid expecting to receive the unit."

But 760 UK pounds is still a lot of bucks to pay for a picture!

What I really think is dumb is when someone lists an item like an LA2A and then posts specs about LA2A's in general; like you're gonna be browsing Ebay to get that information and you're gonna be sold suddenly because of the specs.

Even when it's not a picture of an LA2A.

What I wanna see is facts about the particular item; how old, condition, issues, service record, etc...

Anyone who bids without that information and without an array of decent photos is doomed from the start anyway.

funny thing is he wants you to pick it up personally. is it some kind of joke? If i showed up expecting an la2a and he handed me a picture, he'd surely catch a backhand.

The "catch" is buried in the specs as if it were camouflage... nobody really wants to read a review of the LA2A!

Hahaha...If they love "it" so much why are the selling "it"?

If your gear lust is stronger than your common sense then you're an easy target for these scams. If someone is bothering to sell a real LA2A on ebay, they will be aware of a fair market price... a real steal of a deal...

I think the whole "pickup only" thing is supposed to give you confidence that you're bidding on a tangible item.

Maybe for a small fee they could "ship" it to an e-mail address.

looks like a bad joke gone horribly wrong, I suspect the "winner" with the private feedback was the originator of the auction furiously trying to cover his ass

When the original Xbox first came out, I saw an auction for an "Xbox box". Don't know how it turned out though.

There is a winning bid of £760 listed.
So to our London Slutz- if you smell smoke tonight, it is probably coming form the office of Siverde ProAudio.

That XBox 360 box (an empty box only) did sell before Christmas.

For $810.

EBAY Guy's Response

So, as you know from above, I hit the ASK THE SELLER A QUESTION and said that I was really interested, in fact I would pay top dollar if he had a BIU IT NOW button if he could just tell me how much it would weigh?!

Here' the response:

Hi there,

I can add in a Buy it now option for you no probs. Total weight is just over 1 gram on gloss paper but slightly less on normal paper

Lots of Love
Jason

This guy is an asshole.
I'm sick of seeing this sort of thing.
I'm going to contact ebay regarding it and put what pressure I can to make this sort of fakery a thing of the past.
I think we should all mail this joker and tell him as much.

Who's up for it?

James

I wrote the guy and gave him my humble opinion I also asked what he would do if someone paid that much for a frickin' pic? Was this a joke or 100% scam or a scam passed off as a joke when we all busted him!

I reported the auction as soon as I noticed the (well hidden) note about it only being an auction for a picture. Still not heard anything back from eBay.

Certainly on the UK site, it seems as though an enormous number of 'big ticket' items are scams now. More and more sales from sellers keeping feedback private (why would you do that), or sellers who've only ever sold two porcelain plates and a chintz lampshade in 1998, and go by the name 'Granny1912' suddenly trying to sell a Fairchild 670 using a photo taken from Vintage King website.

Maybe eBay is nearing the end of it's usefulness for Slutz like us? Especially as scammers are getting more and more brazen, and eBay seems unable to police it's own auctions. Surely the only use for keeping feedback private is to protect fraudsters.... I can't see why eBay don't ditch it.

As far as I can see this auction should be seen as nothing more than fraud, and should be treated as such. Were this to happen on the High Street, you'd expect the seller to get a prison term. As it is, this guy will probably get nothing more than a negative feedback, which now carries no meaning at all.
