definition of industry standard forum abbreviations-eg FWIW, IMO, etc...

specially for the newbies and the likes of me who read posts and sit there trying to figure out what the hell are they trying to say with those lettters. what are the definitions of those abbreviations most people use in forums. mainly the most commonly used ones and the new released abbreviations. some of them look like they just grabbed lines from the eye chart.

eg.
FWIW
IMHO
IMO

there's more, but I can't remember all of them.

The internet abbreviations are common and have nothing to do specifically with this forum. In fact, many of the earliest ones resulted from online games called MUD's which were originally text based versions of things like Dungeons & Dragons. Such games have evolved into the current offerings like EQ or WoW. A derivitive is l33t-speak which uses various numbers and symbols that looks basically like letters to make words. Another derivitive is due to common keyboard reversals and typos, such as "pr0n" (porn--note the l33t substitution of the 0 for o); also there are extended typo l33t such as Rox0rz or sux0rz.

Finally, for this and other audio forums, there are the endless acronyms and numbers associated with gear. I tried to make a list of the most important ones for my wife, so she could understand what I and others were saying when we went out on the town and talked shop. If I find the list I will post it as a Word doc---it had things like 1073, 1176, MP, 251, etc.

Someone posted a link to some acronyms, but there are many internet speak and l33t speak specific ones.
